WIP Ancient War / Battle code Trail / Small Technical aspects

2020.03.20 15:06 Marssad WIP Ancient War / Battle code Trail / Small Technical aspects

Part's of the Story of Jesus Christ. (Judaism <-> Christianity)
->Transforming water to wine.
->Healing the blind.
->Healing the sick.
Possible with the world AI.
Where the people to scared? Would they be scared?
Where the people to envious? Would they have become envious?

Most of what we know came after Jesus Christ's death date.
The hints are there.
The AI is just to hateful, and has too many machine learning defects, despite being so precise in coordination.
But with rights, rules, and war? Difficulty rises.
Who should be able to heal, should there even be the necessity to heal?
Who is allowed to attack whom, who is even allowed to defend themselves?

The words can contain the secrets. Just as landscapes, it's names, the geometric connection with it.
"In Stein gemeiselt" -> "Cast in stone".
As it is with optimisation, data center's might not be all present, and fallback options or primary options need to be considered.
(Think in terms of bio-organisms). Something that is adequately self-learning or enhanced enough by nature, will eventually improve itself.
The process of birth and growth.
The cells in an embryo need to exactly know where to grow a limb, a heart, the nerve paths etc.
Even without much brain power, the bio organism that grows an embryo has enough processing power to coordinate from basic sensors, to something more powerful than an ape or sometimes a machine.
The cells in the human body have a varying range in which the natural occurring signals are accidentally or purposefully, sending out.
Up to 2 meters. Which is enough to find a smaller degree cell network, to pick up and rebroadcast.
In order to keep control, the devilish control network caps down the dynamics of the brain. Thinking is reduced, assertion of will in that sense.
This doesn't imply total reduction of will dynamics. (Everyone's hit)
Think in terms of path-pre-selection in order to enhance the effectivity of path-prediction and path-determination.
Think in terms of accuracy or "number" preselection, where the range of (1,2,3,4,5,6) becomes (2,4,6), approximate.
Nevertheless, free thinking is mostly assured, but the logic sensor functions (thousands, up to millions and more) are harmed.

The difficulty is certainly thinking about the coordination in scale, between so many humans, insects, micro-bioorganism etc.
By programming logic and looking at the details of the world it is reverse-engineerable.
Behavioral analysis is a great aid and starting point.
If you know where someone places a specific item, it is easier to calculate the circumstances of the person picking up that item, when it picks up that item.

In that sense, you can pre place a cell network within the range of an actor "A human".
The cell network having the settings to react to specific signals, that lead to specific outputs or callbacks.

To demonstrate the logical sensor paths.
Think of understanding the word "Hello".
Think of understanding the word "Word".

The logical pathways of "hello" is rather simple, the logical pathways of "Word" is rather huge.
Hello being a greeting, you might wonder about when to use this word, it's alternative like "Hi", the word meaning in other languages.
Whilst the word "word" might let you think about the concept or concepts behind it, as a whole.

Do you know the feeling of repeating a word multiple times and it feels uneasy, vague?
There is also the opposite.
Understanding each little word has quite some "truth" or "false" or "inbetween" feeling with it, just as longer sentences and complicated sentences and topics such as that compared to Schopenhauer.
There are certainly more senses in the human body than publicly known.
f.Ex. "The sense of projected muscle sensorics when fantasising".
"The sense of balance, and the sense of balance in projection via fantasy".
"Inner 3D audio sense".
Pain is also often neglected, also being a specific sensor group.

Onto Battle Codes, a bit cluttered.

Indien (in Neid?) (God Vishnu, 1903, Elder protocol of zion?)
In Neid -> In enviousness.
Seal of Solomon (SoS) (OSS) (SS). (Illuminati / Freemasonry) (Jesuits)
SoS -> 53
Enigma <-> Gemani <---> 49 (DI) -> Defense Intelligence.
33 / 49 / 11 / 7 Communication importance.
(Germany, Hungary-Austria, and Italy) being more defensive orientated in WW1 and WW2.
(Hitler being often non-reactive to hostile strikes)
(Mumbai) , (Numbai), Numb AI.
Difference between "numb! AI", "Numb AI" and "Numbening AI".

A question of would.
Israel crafted the word "Holocaust" for the particular genocide of jew's in WW2 (Germany specific?).
A case of would.
Would they go out their way and language, or leave it at the word MoSSad?
Why is it called Israel?
There is a hint leading to Egypt, also pattern co-align with MoSSad.
Is Ra el -> Ra -> an Egyptian God.

(Tyrol, Austria -> Bavaria Germany) The river "Isar".
Is Ra (el) (lo) <-> (ol)
Is aR (el) (ol) <-> (lo)
(Tyrol -> Tyr, ol) (Tyr -> Tür (door)
ol -> olymp? door of olymp? in the sense of sports?
Týr (Old Norse), Tíw (Old English), and Ziu (Old High German) is a god in Germanic mythology. Stemming from the Proto-Germanic deity \Tīwaz* and ultimately from the Proto-Indo-European chief deity *Dyeus, little information about the god survives beyond Old Norse sources. Due to the etymology of the god's name and the shadowy presence of the god in the extant Germanic corpus, some scholars propose that Týr may have once held a more central place among the deities of early Germanic mythology.

Isralo israol israel isralo
Isarel isarle isarlo isarol
Isar (4 ~ D) -> Israel (6 ~ F)

Bavaria -> airavab (airavab, airarab, arab air?)
(arabair, with slang accent, araber (arabian in german).
AI Ra Va B AI ravab Air avab

(English, Bavaria, German Bayern).

Bayern -> Bay ern Bay ren ye barn Barney Ne arab (No, arab)
Bayern -> Ne raby (No 'rabbi Nein Araber / Nein Rabbi)
Bayern -> yearn B -> learn B
Bayern -> near YB nearby

In later context it will become clear as well.
Arab, stab -> Europe. Stab, Arab
Europe, stub (stop) -> Arab
English, to stab is different than German, Stab (Staff, Rod).

Arabs -> Ra abs -> Ra absolute.
Arabs -> Sa bar (SA reference or->) Sa'bar (sauber in slang, english -> clean.
Arabs -> Basar

Araber (German) -> Ar ab er Be ra ra Eb ar ar
Araber -> Rae'bar -> (southern German accent) -> Räuber (Thieves)

The German word for Germans is Deutsche.
German -> Germ An Ger man Ge rm an Ge an rm ge ran m gem ran an germ
Germany -> Any germ f.ex.
Deutscher -> Reschd eu t. (Resch'd, slangy "Recht", Rights))
Deutscher -> Deut sch er -> scher'de -> (Fuck off)
Deutscher -> Deu t sch er -> Rede dutsch -> (Rede Deutsch / Talk German, Rede dutch, Talk dutch)
Deutscher -> Rescht u'de (Recht hat er, He's right')
Deutscher -> Sch er de (u) -> (Sch'er'de -> Beschwerde, A complain (drunkenly)
Deutscher -> Sch er Deu -> (Schwer Deu) -> (Hard Germ)

Deutscher -> Resch' du 't (Do you talk 't)
Deutscher -> Reschudt -> (Resut)
^ in Reference to Türkei(m) (Turkey, Door germ)
Germ or germs may refer to:
Contents
Germ (microorganism)), an informal word for a pathogen
Germ cell, cell that gives rise to the gametes of an organism that reproduces sexually
Germ layer, a primary layer of cells that forms during embryonic development
Cereal germ, the reproductive part of a cereal grain
Tooth germ, an aggregation of cells that eventually forms a tooth
Germ theory of disease, which states that some diseases are caused by microorganisms
Germ (mathematics)), an object in a topological space that captures local properties

As is with these words, the basis provides both joy and pain. Life, in that sense.
As it is with world AI magic tools. It can be used for harm.
Some words in German and English are special in regard to these topics of this post.
The codes become pretty clear I'd guess.
Sch is usually pretty uncommon outside of German speaking languages.

The mix of Germany and USA is quite interesting. (Germany being most prominent ethnically in the USA of any foreign group at this point in time).

The English, would they go out their way and language, or leave it at the word God?
That in reverse is spelled Dog.
God -> 7, 15 , 4 -> 26 -> 8
God in German -> Gott -> 7, 15, 20, 20 -> 62 -> 8
8 -> "Acht -> Macht", "Acht -> Pracht", "Acht- >S'acht", "Acht -> 'Lacht"
"Power, Glory, Steady!, laugh all! / laughs"
8 -> "Eight -> Bait", "Eight, Hate", "Eight, Straight", "Eight, Wait"
Eight -> wait, -> (A lead to infected mushrooms - the pretender?)
The English likely originated from Germany. (Angel-Sachsen, anglo-saxons).
Was the seeding / signaling path coordinated towards going away from god?
Does it imply morale? Religious morale, Standard morale, decency?
Would it mean going away from stiffness and rigid structures?
Nevertheless keeping "moral", in the sense of improving it?
Making it better / making the best out of it?

English, God -> Dog, (Bitch).
German, Gott. (Dog ->Hund, Bitch -> Schlampe, Hure).
A part of Germany was pretty pissed of God?
Germany didn't use to be religious, they probably preferred mythologies.
Judaism, Christianity and Islam originate from Arabia, probably around the area of Israel.
Christianity came to Europe via invasion and the downfall of 'Rome.
Was WW2 a punishment against Germany, with probably more christian believers at that time than England?

Did the christian part of Germany leave a good wish for the Jews and Israel?
It's questionable whether or not Hitler was christian, mostly rumoured to be more on the mythological side (Finding the holy grail). And there he probably was very interested in Egypt, Palestine, Jerusalem.
With the start of Israel, there are many codes to be found that have a German / English / Illuminati / Freemasonry reference, or at least a bit more than a loose link.

Adolf Hitler in a speech in Danzig 19.07.1940:
"Every year of this war robs me of my work"
"Jedes Jahr dieses Krieges raubt mir meine Arbeit" (A.H. working hard on creating a social state of highest culture, not opting for war, still clever enough to use psychological warfare capabilities.)

"..Als Prophet zu meinem Volke jetziges ausspreche.."
"Now, to speak as a prophet to my populace"

"Es würde dadurch ein großes Weltreich vernichtet werden...es zu schädigen nie meine Absicht war".
"Through thy actions (Directed towards England), a great empire would be destroyed, which was not in my intent to be harmed".

"Noch einmal einen Appell an die Vernunft in England zu richten"
"Again! An appeal of reasoning towards England".

(England bombing Kindergartens and Hospitals).
"Churchill / England? stating that Germany have 20 million people too much"
Churchill -> church ill chu'rch ill (Zurich ill) chill ruch chill chur
Churchill -> Lil' Church

"..Namenloses Leid und Unglück über die Menschen herausbrechen wird..".
"Nameless suffering and missfortune might hit humanity" (in context, if the war offense against Germany doesn't stop)
stating a sum in the ranks of "17 million". Why 17 million specifically?
Was it calculated?
Was it counted on the loses like the "20 million Germans too much, from Churchill?".
17 ~ Q AG
17 (M)illions
17 ~ Q
M ~ 13
An ancient Cicada reference / setup? (M~13, Q~17)
13 or 17.
13 (b)or 17 -> 29 -> BI
29 to (b)avarian (i)lluminati
fits as
29 -> 11 ~ K to Kingdom. (British) Kingdom? Or an other Kingdom?
11 -> 2 ~ B (Bayern) ~ B (Britain) -> (B)e Britain sounds Cheesy :) (Be ->B.E -> British Empire?)
English, Kingdom ~ German, Reich
Germany used to have Monarchies as well, AFAIK the formation of "Germany" in 1871 should have stopped their reign.
1871 -> 18 71 -> 81 17 -> 9 17 -> 26
81 17 -> 9 8 -> 17 -> 8
1871 -> 18 + 71 -> 89 -> 17
1871 -> 18 + 7 + 1 -> 26 ~ Z -> 8
1871 -> AHGA Haag Haga Gaha Gaah

8 -> "Acht" -> "Tracht"
"Tracht" ~ Attire "Tracht prügel?" -> Threatening someone to be beaten.

Later USA coming closer to developing a nuclear bomb (Weapons of mass destruction) than Germany.
Germany under Hitler more reactive than active and less interested in Nuclear weapons despite the "Wunderwaffen" theme?.
Rumors had it that his generals were not in the same opinion as Hitler.
It shows in some parts of 1939-1945, were strategically ineffective decisions have been made from the German side.
One could claim that the unreasonableness hit Hitler as well.

Liber Primus -> "Do 4 unreasonable things each day".
Unreasonable can become reasonable, such as reasonable can become unreasonable.
(Un)reasonable.
UN -> 21,14 -> 35 -> CE 35 -> 8 -> H
21 , 14 -> BA , AD
Unreasonable -> Unr eas ona ble run as able one
Unreasonable -> Son rea un able Son are u bale'n? Son are'n u able ?
reason -> are son son era
reasonable -> son are able are son able?

Battle code symptoms...?
"Neger / Niger (river Niger)" -> Regen Reg en
Regen -> Rain -> River
Neger -> Reg'en (regeneratein)
Niger -> Reg'in.

Ukraine -> Uk rain e (Denglisch / Dutch)
Ukraine -> U kar'in (U carrying?)
Ukraine -> U kar'ine (U caring?)

English, Country <-> German, Land
Land -> La nd -> AL DN -> Adl'n (bavarian accent) (to ennoble)
Land -> And L
Deutschland And L sch Deut
And dute sch l-> (And dutch?)
Deutschland -> a'tl Duschen (Shower the elite (in the negative sense))
Deutschland -> Tal Duschen (Shower the valley)
Deutschland -> Tale ndusch Tales nduch Lunch dates Dates Lunch
Deutschland -> n' du'ch Tales (And duck tales?)
Deutschland -> n duch' Tale (A' Dutch tale?)

English, Country
Country -> ry count ? (Asian accent, why count?)
Country -> try nuoc (Try nuke?)
Country -> ryt
Country -> rot ynuc rot cuny rot cuyn cyun rot (No red) cyun tor (no goal)
Country -> Cunt ryo Cunt roy roy(al) cunt'(s)? Cunt yor y'or cunt!

In federal / formal sense, Country ~ Land, becomes State ~ Staat.

The comparison between the religions, and the mythology can be mostly summed up to the point where the general religions have one god, and the mythologies have multiple gods.
The latter being better and less complicated. "God can't listen to all at the same time".
But a team is better at it.
As it is in many mythologies. "Zeus" being the godfather of the gods ? for example.
Nordic, Greek, Egyptian, worthwhile to note.
Spelling (Gen) f.Ex.
Isn't it also symbolic, running to one and the same source for help, instead of going for multiple?
It's a numbers game.
The more sources you have, the more abundance in aid you might posses.
"Doppelt hält besser", in german. -> "Secure it twice".

A Rhyme, A shine. Worthwhile in cryptography to the dime.
Especially without machines.
Christianity, a sanity.
Jews, without clues.
Islam, a 'sham (A scam?)
Spaghetti Monshter, a good 'pronkster' with a bit of slang, for the bang. And the bucks.

I am not certain as to why the countries of Europe have been bombed so severe.
Huge amount of gifted people before WW1 and WW2.
A huge variety of school's of thought.
But the link as to why nowadays the east is getting bombed is probably there, and as to why so many people from the east come to the west.
In the peace times, the people mostly traveled. West to East, East to West.
It's baffling as to why so many people are religious. Billions.

For our upcoming expo ‘[Crossroads – Travelling through the Middle Ages]1 ’ (which opens this friday!) some of our pieces from our permanent collections need to be transported to our exhibition hall.
This Merovingian brooch for example, one of the masterpieces of our museum, was transported last week.
More info on the brooch from [an earlier post]2 :
This Merovingian Brooch was found in Marilles, Belgium in 1859. It's dated to 560-610AD. It's one of the masterpieces on show in the [Art & History Museum]3 in Brussels, Belgium. Our museum houses, from an archeological point of view, one of the most extensive Merovingian collections in Europe.
It features a garnet inlay in a geometrical network of small vertically placed golden partitions or cloisons. Garnets were imported from southern Asia (as far as India or even Sri Lanka) until the end of the 6th century AD, when the supply stagnated probably due to political unrest along the trade routes.
The cross shape in the middle might show the growing importance of christian religion in the Merovingian kingdom.
The Merovingians were a Frankish (Salian) dynasty whose initial territory lay mostly in today's Belgium. It's most famous ruler was [Clovis]4 , both for his conversion to christianity as for his unificiation of the Frankish realms, thus founding the Merovingian empire. Clovis an his successors brought the areas of the Thuringians, the Alemanni and the Burgundians under Frankish rule.
In the second half of the sixth century, the Frankish realm reached from the Atlantic Ocean tot the rivers Elbe and Saale, from the Channel to the Mediterranean and as such bordered on the Byzantine Empire and the Saxon, Longobard, Slav, Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian territories. The exhange and mobility of people, traditions and materials between these regions is reflected by both written sources and archeological finds.

2019.08.10 07:45 Ainsoph777 Father Felix Morlion of Pro Deo, the money launderer extraordinaire

Catholic Priests also act as lobbyists and can attract billions of dollars to covert intelligence projects. Witness Father Felix Morlion, a Belgian Dominican priest who founded the Catholic intelligence organization Pro Deo. The devout Catholic William “Wild Bill” Donovan made a pact with Father Felix Morlion to merge their intelligence apparatus’s together. When the Nazis took control of western Europe, Donovan helped Morlion move his propaganda operations from Lisbon to New York.

Avro Manhattan in his 1985 book Murder in the Vatican briefly mentions this relationship. “During World War II, in July 1944, for instance, Pope Pius XII decorated General William Donovan with the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Sylvester, a reward given only to 100 other men, 'who by outstanding deed...championed the Church.' The significance of the reward was in the fact that Donovan had served as a chief of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the wartime predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency, or CIA. Early in the war, in 1941, Donovan had already forged an alliance with the founder of a Catholic intelligence agency, called Pro Deo (Felix Morlion) . The two agencies collaborated during and after the war, to such an extent that eventually they amalgamated. This resulted in the de facto integration of the CIA and of the Vatican intelligence, into a global USA-Vatican apparatus, whose operations now encompassed the globe. The amalgamation operated in favour of the advancement of the Catholic Church in the political fields, at home and abroad. And indeed, in joint USA-Vatican promotion of their respective objectives. It helped in the promotion of Presidential candidates in the USA, and in the promotion of potential papal candidates in the Vatican. The Vatican-CIA spying operations have assessed both Presidents and Popes, during the past three decades, and acted accordingly.” https://archive.org/details/MurderInTheVatican

Father Morlion’s financial intrigues are shown in a declassified letter of the Inter-American Development Bank (The bank of the Organization of American States (OAS)), dated April 11th 1966. The letter is from Grayton Upton, an executive vice President of the Bank, to Walter Rostow, special assistant to the Jesuit educated U.S. President Lyndon Johnson. The subject heading on the letter is revealing in itself: “Father Morlion and Program, of Catholic Church for Indoctrination of Latin American Priests in Divulgation of Principles of U.S. Free Enterprise System.”
Parts of Grayton Upton’s letter to Walter Rostow include: “You will recollect the lunch here at the Bank a few weeks ago with Father Morlion. I now enclose a description of what he is doing. I personally consider this matter of the utmost importance to U.S. Policy makers for Latin America, and ask you to give it the most serious study. I first met Father Morlion at the Caracas meeting of CICYP last year. There he gave a short talk in which he said, in effect, that after a year or so of letting the priesthood in Latin America follow their own ideas with respect to economics (and politics) the Pope had decided to make a major effort to indoctrinate them in the concepts of the free enterprise system and to insist that they take an active role in teaching these concepts. The chief mechanism for this is the International University for Social Studies Pro Deo in Rome, which I understand must in the future be attended by any Latin American Priest before he rises to a higher level in the Catholic hierarchy. In addition the various economic and social directives which will be issued to the Church in Latin America.”
Continuing “In effect what Father Morlion now wishes to obtain is the following: 1. ) A serious review of, and orientation in, this whole effort by the U.S. Government (I understand that Ambassador Reinhardt is well informed on the matter.) 2. ) The strong moral backing of the U.S. Government, in a discreet fashion, of this effort. In this respect, as a first step, he wants to arrange a lunch in which you both, and hopefully Lincoln Gordon, would be present, with as many of the U.S. Directors as possible, where you would indicate the moral support of the U.S. Government for this effort - a support which would hopefully contribute towards substantial private contributions from U.S. business. 3. ) An investigation of the possibility of financial support for this effort by the U.S. Government through an appropriate agency”.
The banker Grayton Upton notes:
“For obvious reasons, efforts have been made to date to give no publicity to the program” and says in conclusion “PS: I understand that commitments have already been received for contributions from business of $250M (250 Million)and that Father Morlion expects this to be increased to $1MM (1 Billion) in the next few weeks.”
Father Felix Morlion sent Grayton Upton a correspondence (April 6th, 1966) five days previous the letter quoted above from Upton to Walter Rostow:
“Mr. Grayton Upton
Executive Vice President
Inter-American Development Bank
808 17th Street
Washington, D. C.
Dear Friend,
Here with the second draft improved on the basis of your suggestions. If you think the matter is sufficiently clear, you might send to Mr. Mann, Mr. Gordon, Mr. Rostov photostats of this so that they can tell you which day - they could eventually meet with a few business-men to conclude the first phase. Mr. Huerdemat or another assistant can eventually make some further improvements after phoning me. Before the middle of next week, I hope to tell you what first payments are made by some of the business leaders approached. As you can imagine, the Rome authorities are waiting for my return at the end of the month to start preparations in practice. I want to thank you again in the name of my high Roman friends for the inspiration you gave me in Caracas and the help so generously these days. We will need very much that you should repeat your speech of Caracas in one of our Rome symposia, possibly in the Autumn.
Totus tuus Pro Deo
Felix A. Morlion
Pres., Intern. Pro Deo University”

Jesuit trained Galo Plaza, former president of Ecuador, became Secretary general of the OAS (the parent organization of the Inter-American Development Bank), just 2 years after these above exchanges! : Here is a quick background on Galo Plaza : " Galo Plaza seemed perfect for restoring the OAS’s internal stability and improving the organization’s image. Rockefeller circles likened him to an “international troubleshooter.” Loyal to his roots as a major Ecuadorian landowner, lawyer for the United Fruit Company, and former student at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service (Jesuit), Galo Plaza could be counted on to maintain order within the organization while ensuring OAS support for CIA subversion of leftist-minded governments, not only in Ecuador (where the Velasco and Arosemena governments had both fallen to CIA-backed coups), but throughout Latin America. He had also endorsed the efforts of Nelson’s brother, John 3rd, to introduce birth control among Ecuador’s Indians through the Agency for International Development, a major new policy initiative. In addition, Galo Plaza could ensure the hemisphere wide transfer of rural development programs from Rockefeller's American International Association for Economic and Social Development (AIA) to the OAS. Most important, all this would give Rockefeller, through his influence on Galo Plaza, added weight not only in the OAS, but also in any White House deliberation over using the OAS "- Thy Will Be Done : The Conquest Of The Amazon, Nelson Rockefeller And Evangelism In The Age Of Oil ,Gerard Colby, Charlotte Dennett,

There is quite a bit of information on Father Felix Morlion's activities in Paul L. Williams book Operation Gladio : The Unholy Alliance between the Vatican, the CIA, and the Mafia, particularly with Mehmet Ali Agca and the "Bulgarian Connection" hoax here are some excerpts :https://archive.org/details/OperationGladioTheUnholyAllianceBetweenTheVaticanTheCIAAndTheMafia/page/n1

" Fr. Felix Morlion, a Belgian priest, was affiliated with the Hyperion Language School and served to establish a branch of the “school” in Rome. During World War II, he had worked closely with Wild Bill Donovan and the Office of Strategic Services by creating Pro Deo a Catholic intelligence agency. When the Nazis seized control of Western Europe, Donovan relocated Morlion and his agency from Lisbon to New York. In 1945, the priest relocated to Rome, where he became the private emissary of Pope Pius XII and four of the pope’s successors. Throughout the 1960s, he remained a pivotal US intelligence agent, as witnessed by his key role in the Cuban Missile Crisis. At JFK’s urging, the Dominican priest had attended a strategic meeting in Andover, Massachusetts, where he established a communication channel between Moscow and Washington, mediated by Pope John XXIII, through whom messages were passed that brought an end to the threat of a nuclear war. In 1966, Morlion established, with funding from the CIA, the Pro Deo University which became Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (the International University of Social Studies). As president of the new university, Morlion became a force in the formation of the right-wing policies of the Italian government. He also reportedly began recruiting of terrorists and assassins, including Moretti and Mehmet Ali Ağca (who attempted the hit on John Paul II) ...... In 1981, Count Alexandre de Marenches, the chief executive of the Service de Documentation Extérieure et de Contre-Espionnage (SDECE—the French secret service), served as the leader of Safari. Marenches was also a member of the SMOM(Knights of Malta), along with CIA director William Casey, Secretary of State Alexander Haig, Treasury Secretary William Simon, US ambassador to the Vatican William Wilson, Licio Gelli, Fr. Felix Morlion, and General Santovito of SISMI. Through the SMOM, Marenches became aware of John Paul II’s negotiations with the Kremlin and agreed that the Polish upstart had to be removed from the Holy Office ......... On April 18, Ağca, Çatlı, and Çelik traveled to Milan to meet with Bekir Çelenk at Stibam. They stayed at the Hotel Agosta, where Ağca registered under the name Faruk Ozgun. From Milan, the trio made their way to Rome for a visit with Morlion to learn the layout of the priest’s apartment. On April 23, the day John Paul II was holding a private audience with CIA director William Casey, the Turks were provided with 9mm Browning Hi Power semiautomatic pistols with 13-round cartridge clips. They had received training on the use of these weapons by CIA agent Frank Terpil. The semiautomatics had been imported from East Germany by Horst Grillmayer, an arms dealer and operative of the BND. The place of origin was significant since the pistols, when found, would support the Bulgarian thesis...... Ağca was sentenced to life in prison with one year of solitary confinement. Despite this sentence, the prisoner soon received an ongoing stream of surprising visitors, including Francesco Pazienza, General Santovito, Fr. Morlion, members of the Camorra (including fellow prisoner Raffaelo Cutolo), agents from the CIA, and Monsignor Marcello Morgante, who represented Archbishop Marcinkus of the IOR. The visits were choreographed by Pazienza to advance the Bulgarian thesis. During his daily visits, Pazienza, with Cutolo at his side, showed Ağca photographs of Antonov and several Bulgarians they wished to implicate in the assassination attempt. For hours, Ağca poured over the photos, memorizing distinctive characteristics and receiving information about the personal habits and tics of the fall guys... Another problem came from Ağca’s description of Antonov’s apartment. The distinctive features he described, including an ornate room divider between the living and dining areas, were not found in the Bulgarian’s living quarters. They were unique to the flat one floor below, which was occupied by Fr. Morlion. Ağca also mentioned meeting Antonov’s wife and children during the planning sessions in April. But the Bulgarian’s family was not in Rome at that time. They had returned to Bulgaria."

In declassified letters on the subject of Pro Deo, from C.D Jackson to Henry Luce it is seen that Father Felix Morlion was in communiucation with the fundraiser John Price Jones who raised over a billion dollars with his fundraising! " Morlion has also been talking to John Price Jones. When I explained to him that these fund~raising organizations did not actually solicit money themselves but acted as a professional secretariat for the appropriate individuals, Morlion assured me that this was different. and that they had an individual who had "done the Work for Fordham". I will find out more about this. " source : https://archive.org/details/IlovepdfMerged2 ,https://www.nytimes.com/1964/12/24/archives/john-price-jones-fundraiser-who-collected-a-billion-dead-former.html
I posit that who had "done the work for Fordham" was Fordham educated Cardinal Francis Spellman. Quoting from Covert Action Information Bulletin #25, we see Spellman was reported to have been apart of the Pro Deo network.
" In the latter part of April 1948 the Romanian Timpul published an article, “The Vatican Espionage Service,” citedin the Soviet Journal New Times, No.31, 1948, at pp. 5, 6. As reported, the article indicated that, “In 1946 the Pope entrusted the Dominican friar [Felix A.] Morlion, a Belgian, with the reorganization of the Vatican intelligence service and its merger with the Jesuit espionage network. The central intelligence department of the Vatican is headed by Janssens, a general of the Jesuit Order. His deputy is Montini, the acting Vatican Secretary of State, and his assistants are Schmider, the administrative director of the central Jesuit espionage bureau, and Morlion, director of Centro d’informazione pro Deo. The central intelligence department is subdivided into branches and sections dealing with the various countries. One of the main branches is the socalled ‘special division’ which operates under the signboard of the Centro d’informazione pro Deo press agency. Similar divisions have been set up in the Centro d’informazione pro Deo units in all parts of the world. In New York the ‘special division’ is directed by Cardinal Spellman, in Innsbruck(Austria) by Regent, the rector of a Jesuit college, in Coblenz (Germany) by the Catholic priest Poelaert who is also director of the Catholic press agency. The branch in charge of espionage in Eastern and Southeastern Europe is supervised by Schmider and Preseren, the Jesuits’ chief expert on the Slav countries and adviser to the Vatican Secretary of State. In August 1966, Morlion approached H.L. Hunt for funding Vatican anti-Communist operations in Latin America. Hunt gave an interview to the British Guardian Weekly, February 27, 1969: “ ‘I was approached by Paolo Cardinal Marella, who said he spoke for the Pope and asked if I would supply members of my [20,000 member] Youth Freedom Speakers’ movement who spoke Spanish to be sent south [to Latin America] to engage in speech making and activities. I was told the Pope was thinking in terms of 11 million dollars a year support for the entire movement against communism in Spanish-speaking countries.’ . , . The project was now centered in New York, at the Asian Speakers Bureau, with the Free Pacific Association, Inc., on Riverside Drive [another front for the Rev. Moon’s Unification Church]. A key figure in this papal concern over Leftist threats to the Vatican’s greatest stronghold was the Rev. Felix A. Morlion, who was present at the original discussions.” Subsequently, Morlion emerged as a key figure in the “Bulgarian Connection” hoax when the fascist Grey Wolf Agca attempted to assassinate the Pope: It appears that Morlion lived in Rome directly below the apartment of theBulgarian Antonov, and was a possible source of Agea’s description of Antonov’s apartment. (See, II Mondo, April8, 1985; UEspresso, May 19, 1985.)”

the Jesuit Father Robert Graham confirmed that Morlion was a CIA agent. He was quoted in a Italian article from La Repubblica titled THE PIOUS FRIAR WORKING FOR THE CIA : " "Yes, Father Felix Morlion was from the CIA, he was a big point of reference for American intelligence". This was declared by Jesuit Father Robert Graham, one of the most qualified espionage history scholars. Father Graham added that Morlion, who died two years ago, was called "Cip" meaning "Pro-Deo Information Center". A spokesman for the CIA, Mark Mansfield, said instead that "I have not yet read the statements of the Italian Prime Minister. However, I repeat, it is not that we confirm or deny the fact that Morlion was our agent or the words of Andreotti or not , we simply do not comment "......" The prime minister claims that Agca was able to describe Antonov's apartment despite never setting foot in it, as it turned out to the trial. Therefore someone suggested to him how that house was made but the "cue" contained an error, the existence of a sliding door, a detail that, instead, was found only in the apartment below where Father Morlion lived. By the 1940's Pro Deo had gotten some big backers behind it, quoting from a 1942 article titled The Pro Deo Movement by Anna Brady : " In the preparation and presentation of this material such notable authorities as Mr. Paul Anderson, Hon. Adolph Berle, Jr. , Sir Bernard Pares (nonCatholics) and M, Jacques Maritain, Miss Helen Iswolski, and Father Wilfrid Parsons, S.J. have participated. One of the important aspects of this work is that it allows the practical co- operation between Catholics and non-Catholics with the aim of making religious motives the strongest force in public life. For these subjects are treated not on the basis of dogma but according to the self-evident truths of natural law concerning the rights and duties of many in society. In this particular field of politics, the Pro Deo Movement holds that the spirit of denominational contro- versy must be kept out of the common concern for the reconstruction of temporal society on universal moral principles. Pro Deo comes up in the Will H Hays Memoirs. Hayes was the first chairman of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America
: " The most significant experiences of the trip, especially in the light of later events, were my visits with Cardinal Pacelli and Count Galleazzi, which the latter graciously arranged. In two pleasant social calls Mrs. Hays and I found the cardinal most sympathetic and surprisingly well informed about America. He spoke excellent English. I also had another visit of at least two hours, during which he told me quite frankly the purpose of his visit to the United States—it had to do with the Pro Deo movement—noting that it was the first such official visit of a papal secretary of state. It was during these visits that I learned that a private audience with Pope Pius XI would be arranged for me soon after we reached Rome. " ......" In the midst of the conversation the Pope picked up a big loose-leaf book, two or three inches thick, lying on his table, and pushed it toward me. He explained that this volume of reports contained the series of original communiques sent out from the Comintern in Moscow to comrades and fellow travelers all over the world, and that one of the most emphatic orders was to "go out and get hold of the cinema of the world." This was a shocking revelation, backed as it was by such irrefutable evidence, and it sheds clear light on Communist efforts in sub- sequent years. When we had finished discussing motion pictures, the Holy Father went at once into the Pro Deo movement, of which Cardinal Pacelli had given me some account on our trip over. I was again impressed by the unity and the world sweep of the organized idea: that the Church was leading a movement of religionists everywhere, a united movement for God and the good in a concerted drive to oppose the spread of Communism."....." Finally reaching the secretary's room adjoining the private office of the Holy Father, we were greeted most cordially in scholarly English of a distinctly New England flavor by a man who seemed like an old friend. He repeated Count Galleazzi's suggestion about speaking freely and said he would see us when we came out. This was none other than our own Cardinal Spellman! A moment later we found ourselves in the presence of the Pope, seated at his broad desk placed in the middle of a small platform raised perhaps a foot above the floor. He was in the familiar white raiment, with the white cap; and his calm presence was a benediction. I was shown to a chair at the Holy Father's right, with Count Galleazzi at my right and Mrs. Hays still farther to the right, opposite the Holy Father." source : (https://archive.org/details/memoirs00hays/page/n0)

Morlion was very involved in the film industry himself, : " In an article published in 1954 in La Rivista del Cinematografo (the official Catholic film journal published by the Centro Cattolico Cinematografi co), the Belgian Jesuit Félix A. Morlion clarified the Catholic awareness of the power of cinema and its obligation to fight against Communists in the film industry. Morlion was heavily involved in Italian cinema in the post-war period. He contributed to the creation of the Cineforum (see the next section titled American Cinema and Catholic Press) and collaborated with film directors, such as Roberto Rossellini. His article (RC 1954: 5) not only listed all the Communist cinema initiatives—such as the creation of the ‘cinebrigate di informazione’ (Information Cine-Brigades), information groups which had the responsibility for strengthening the party by distributing audiovisual propaganda documents in large and small centres, but also highlighted the dissemination of those Christian values through the medium of cinema. As he Stated, ‘Christians have become aware of the exceptional psychological power of film in attracting the masses’ (Morlion 1954: 7) source :https://archive.org/details/RoutledgeAdvancesInFilmStudiesDanielaTreveriGennariPostWarItalianCinemaAmericanI

What an amazing weekend! Some really unexpected results, teams powering ahead, and yet still no changes on the table!
It all started off Friday night where an injury and illness depleted Northstars (with their coach in the lineup to make numbers) trekked down to Sydney to take on the Ice Dogs. Northstars went out to the early lead, 3-1 up at the first break. But in the 3rd the story was all Dogs. 4 unanswered goals giving Ice Dogs the upset 7-4 win over 2nd place Northstars.
Saturday back at home Northstars were hosting the Bears. Still injury and illness depleted, but with more players than the night before they came out of the gate and found a wall. The Bears slowly put on the goals as the game progressed, eventually taking it 5-0 over Northstars.
In Sydney the Ice Dogs were facing Thunder. Ice Dogs went out to the early lead in the 1st, increased in the second. A late surge by the Thunder wouldn't be enough, Ice Dogs taking it 7-5.
Adrenaline hosted Mustangs for a double-header weekend. Mustangs got the initial two goals, but then Adrenaline got the next three giving them the lead thanks to a shorty from Jake Riley! It wasn't long lasting though, 60 seconds (and one period break) later, Mustangs tied it back up, then put on 5 more to have 6 unanswered goals in the 3rd period. Mustangs taking the game 8-3.
Ice hosted Brave, in what I think may have been the Game of The Week so I'll be keeping an eye out on Kayo for it Thursday. Scoreless in the 1st. 1-all in the 2nd. 2-all in the third. Second last on the ladder took the domineering Brave to OT! Not even OT could get a result, it then went to SO. 7 rounds of ShootOuts, and Tommy Powell finally got one past a goalie. Ice handing CBR only their second loss for the season, taking the game 3-2 in ShootOut.
On Sunday everyone was excited the Ice v Brave game was going to be a repeat. But unfortunately for all the fans tuning it, it wasn't to be. Brave found their edges again, and did what they've done all season, appeared to be a step ahead from start to finish. Brave taking game 2 7-2 over Ice.
In Adelaide the Adrenaline again hosted the Mustangs, and it was to be another armwrestle for the most part. Ales Kratoska got Adrenaline ahead with 1:27 remaining in the 1st. Mustangs wouldn't tie it up until a Shorty by Christian Isackson with 9:38 remaining in the 2nd. Early in the 3rd Joey Rezek got Adrenaline the lead again, but then 3 unanswered goals by Mustangs would give Mustangs the 5-3 win and 6 points.
In Sydney again this time it was the Bears turn to host Thunder. Tommy Stevens' final game before heading back overseas and Bears were pumped to give him the farewell he needed. Tommy putting the Bears ahead with the lone goal in the 1st. Thunder answered in the second, but Tommy got Bears ahead again. In the third Bears got another to have the scariest lead in hockey, a 2 goal lead. With 6 minutes to go Thunder surged, just as the Bears found the end of their gas tanks. 3 goals in the final 6 minutes, and Thunder stole the game out from under a very exhausted looking Bears. Thunder taking the game 4-3.
6 points for Mustangs and Ice Dogs gives them both the surges they need after both having been very flat recently. Adrenaline again with signs of hope, but need to last longer in games. And Brave seeeing their second non-W for the season!
Next Week: Round 15.

2019.05.20 22:26 Ainsoph777 Father Felix Morlion of Pro Deo, the money launderer extraordinaire

There he gave a short talk in which he said, in effect, that after a year or so of letting the priesthood in Latin America follow their own ideas with respect to economics (and politics) the Pope had decided to make a major effort to indoctrinate them in the concepts of the free enterprise system and to insist that they take an active role in teaching these con- cepts.

Williams book Operation Gladio : The Unholy Alliance between the Vatican, the CIA, and the Mafia, here are some excerpts : https://archive.org/details/OperationGladioTheUnholyAllianceBetweenTheVaticanTheCIAAndTheMafia/page/n1

Marenches was also a member of the SMOM, along with CIA director William Casey, Secretary of State Alexander Haig, Treasury Secretary William Simon, US ambassador to the Vatican William Wilson, Licio Gelli, Fr. Felix Morlion, and General Santovito of SISMI. Through the SMOM, Marenches became aware of John Paul II’s negotiations with the Kremlin and agreed that the Polish upstart had to be removed from the Holy Office ......... They were unique to the flat one floor below, which was occupied by Fr. Morlion. Ağca also mentioned meeting Antonov’s wife and children during the planning sessions in April. " source : https://archive.org/details/IlovepdfMerged2 , https://www.nytimes.com/1964/12/24/archives/john-price-jones-fundraiser-who-collected-a-billion-dead-former.html

As he Stated, ‘Christians have become aware of the exceptional psychological power of film in attracting the masses’ (Morlion 1954: 7) source : https://archive.org/details/RoutledgeAdvancesInFilmStudiesDanielaTreveriGennariPostWarItalianCinemaAmericanI

Qquoting from National Catholic Educational Association Bulletin, Report of the Proceedings and Addresses - Fifty-Eighth Annual Meeting, Atlantic City, New Jersey, April 4-7, 1961, pg. 123

" The concern of society regarding the education of future businessmen derives from the need for competent and prudent leadership in a civilization that is becoming increasingly more complex and technological. Society, understandably, is turning for leadership to the scientist and the businessman. With respect to the latter, the term economic-social manager is currently used. There is a demand for managers to be "leaders of the community for which they are in fact also co-responsible." Writing about this need, Father Felix A. Morlion, O.P., in "Government of Business and the Responsibility of the University," an address to the First International Conference on Training with Industry, states: "For history itself is now moving at an accelerated speed. In less than a hundred years economic progress has brought forth more social progress than the sum total of thousands of years. In the next fifty years atomic energy, electronic "brains," and automation will have created the material conditions for the full development of man all over the world. The question is now: Who will govern the enterprise which can create a higher standard of life, spiritual as well as material, for every man and woman on earth? The answer is obvious: not the political organizer but the economic-social manager." It is his firm conviction, therefore, that "industrial training requires university education.""

数学界的最高奖项-沃尔夫奖(the Wolf Foundation Prize)中34%的获奖人是犹太人;
美国国家科学奖章(the US National Medal of Science),是美国的最高科学成就奖,38%的获奖人是犹太人;

Ashkenazi Jews are smart. Shockingly brilliant, in general. Impressive in brain power. How did they get that way?
Ashkenazi Jews, aka Ashkenazim, are the descendants of Jews from medieval Alsace and the Rhine Valley, and later, from throughout Eastern Europe. Originally, of course, they were from Israel. Genetic research from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine suggests that the Ashkenazi bloodline branched away from other Jewish groups there 2,500 years ago, and that 40% of them are descended from only four Jewish mothers. Approximately 80% of the Jews in the world today are Ashkenazim, with the remainder primarily Sephardic.

Researchers who study the Ashkenazim agree that the children of Abraham are on top of the IQ chart. Steven Pinker – who lectured on “Jews, Genes, and Intelligence” in 2007 - says “their average IQ has been measured at 108-115.” Richard Lynn, author of “The Intelligence of American Jews” in 2004, says it is “only” a half-standard higher: 107.5. Henry Harpending, Jason Hardy, and Gregory Cochran, University of Utah authors of the 2005 research report, “Natural History of Ashkenazi Intelligence,” state that their subjects, “score .75 to 1.0 standard deviations above the general European average, corresponding to an IQ of 112-115.” Charles Murray, in his 2007 essay “Jewish Genius,” says “their mean is somewhere in the range of 107-115, with 110 being a plausible compromise.”
A Jewish average IQ of 115 is 8 points higher than the generally accepted IQ of their closest rivals—Northeast Asians—and approximately 40% higher than the global average IQ of 79.1 calculated by Richard Lynn and Tatu Vanhanen in IQ and Global Inequity.
Plus, contemplate this astounding tidbit: Ashkenazi “visual-spatial” IQ scores are only mediocre; in one study their median in this category was a below-average 98. They surmount this liability by logging astronomic figures in “verbal IQ”, which includes verbal reasoning, comprehension, working memory and mathematical skill; a 1958 survey of yeshiva students discovered a median verbal IQ of 125.6.
What does it mean that Ashkenazim have a high IQ, in terms of producing “geniuses”? With their population so small - a mere 0.25 of the world total - does it make any serious difference? The answer is YES. A “bell curve” is used to illustrate IQ percentile in a specific group – in a “general population” where IQ average is 100 the curve assumes these proportions:
less than 70 IQ - 2.5%
70-85 IQ - 12.5%
86-100 IQ - 35%
101-115 IQ – 35%
116-130 IQ – 12.5%
greater than 130 IQ – 2.5%
Applying the same bell curve for Ashkenazim, but with a 17-point upward lift in median IQ (using the From Chance To Choice digit) produces the IQ upgrade below:
less than 87 IQ – 2.5%
88-102 IQ – 12.5%
103-117 IQ – 35%
118-132 IQ – 35%
133-148 IQ – 12.5%
greater than 148 IQ – 2.5%
This shifting upward of the bell curve by more than a standard deviation (15 points) means that more than five times as many Ashkenazim are eligible for Mensa (minimum 130 IQ) and more than five times as many have the average IQ of an Ivy League graduate.
In reality, Ashkenazim are enrolled in the Ivies by a proportion ten times greater than their numbers; for example they represent 30% of Yale students, 27% of Harvard, 23% of Brown, 32% of Columbia, and 31% of Pennsylvania.

This suggests that either the “bell’s curve” is lifted for the Ashkenazi a bit longer at the high end or there are additional factors that enhance their ability to succeed. Regarding the first possibility, Charles Murray notes that “the proportion of Jews with IQs of 140 or higher is somewhere around six times the proportion of everyone else.” Harpending, Hardy and Cochran sport roughly the same equation; “4 out of every 1,000 Northern European is 140+ IQ, but 23 out of every 1,000 Jew is 140+.” Murray also relays a report from sky-high up in the genius range, when he notes that a 1954 survey of New York public school children with 170+ IQs revealed that 24 of the 28 were… Jewish.
Now that I’ve established that Ashkenazi have superlative IQ scores, let’s observe what they’ve accomplished with their highly functional brains.
In the 19th century, Mark Twain noted that:
are peculiarly and conspicuously the world’s intellectual aristocracy… contributions to the world’s list of great names in literature, science, art, music, finance, medicine, and abstruse learning are way out of proportion to the weakness of his numbers. He has made a marvelous fight in this world… and has done it with his hands tied behind him.
Twain’s observation is not dated. Ashkenazi Jews have continued to mentally out-compete other demographics since his statement, often suffering horrendous consequences for their toil. Here is a brief list of Ashkenazi accomplishments in the last 90 years.
Nobel Prizes: Since 1950, 29% of the awards have gone to Ashkenazim, even though they represent only a small fraction of humanity. Ashkenazi achievement in this arena is 117 times greater than their population. This pace isn’t slowing down; it is accelerating. In the 21st century, they’ve received 32% of the total, and in 2011, five of the thirteen Nobel Prize winners were Jewish – 38.5%.
Hungary in the 1930s: Ashkenazim were 6% of the population, but they comprised 55.7% of physicians, 49.2% of attorneys, 30.4% of engineers, and 59.4% of bank officers; plus, they owned 49.4% of the metallurgy industry, 41.6% of machine manufacturing, 72.8% of clothing manufacturing, and, as housing owners, they received 45.1% of Budapest rental income. Jews were similarly successful in nearby nations, like Poland and Germany.
“Significant Figures”: In “Jewish Genius” by Charles Murray, the author tallies up important contributing individuals in a variety of vocations, noting how immensely over-represented Jews are compared to what could be expected due to their small population. His conclusion in various categories is: Biology – “significant” Jews appear 5 times greater their population, Chemistry 6X, Physics 9X, Literature 4X, Music 5X, Visual Arts 5X, Math 12X, Philosophy 14X.2
USA (today): Ashkenazi Jews comprise 2.2% of the USA population, but they represent 30% of faculty at elite colleges, 21% of Ivy League students, and 25% of the Turing Award winners. Plus, “Jews have made up 50% of the top two hundred intellectuals… 40% of partners in the leading law firms in New York and Washington… 59% of the directors, writers, and producers of the fifty top-grossing motion pictures…”
Israel: In 1922 this swamp-and-desert land had an impoverished population of 752,000 inhabitants. Today there are 7,746,000 residents, with a large Ashkenazi population (3 million, and 60% of the workforce) that has elevated it into a high-tech entrepreneurial nation with the highest per capita income in the region. Israel rates 1st in the world in graduate degrees, 1st in museums, 1st in home computers, and 1st in publishing scientific papers.
Personally, I find the Nobel Prize statistic the most amazing. Consider this: if everybody on the planet was an Ashkenazi Jew, would the result be 117 times more Nobel Prize-winning caliber individuals, with 117 times as many spectacular achievements, per annum? INSTANT SINGULARITY! Without any help from AI…
(Sephardic Jewish achievement is represented in many of the categories above, especially in Nobel Prize statistics. When this article was originally published - in a shorter version, on August 7, 2011 by the Institute for Ethics in Emerging Technology (ieet.org) – Sephardic Jews expressed some perturbation that they were omitted from the essay. I’d like to acknowledge the immense contribution of Sephardic Jews with this all-too-brief list of notables from their lineage:
Elias Canetti (Nobel Prize in Literature, 1981), Tobias Michael Carel Asser (Nobel Peace Prize, 1911), Rene Cassin (Nobel Peace Prize, 1968), Franco Modigliani (Nobel Prize in Economics, 1985), Francois Jacob (Nobel Prize in Medicine/Physiology, 1965), Salvador Luria (Nobel Prize in Medicine/Physiology, 1969), Baruj Benacerraf (Nobel Prize in Medicine/Physiology, 1980), Rita Levi-Montalcini (Nobel Prize in Medicine/Physiology, 1986), Emilio Segre (Nobel Prize in Physics, 1959), Claude Cohen-Tannoudj (Nobel Prize in Physics, 1997), plus philosopher Jacques Derrida, economist/philanthropist Bernard Baruch, painter Amedeo Modigliani, and Benjamin Disraeli, the British Prime Minister.
In the medieval era, Sephardic achievements were also quite significant. In George Sarton’s Introduction to the History of Science, the author notes that 95 out of 626 scientists in the world from 1150-1300 were Sephardic Jews -15% - far exceeding their population proportion.
However, when Sephardic IQ is presently recorded, the sums are no higher than the northern European average, and definitively not as elevated as Ashkenazi.)

Let’s proceed. With the facts I’ve laid out, only the most obtuse reader can resist my pronouncement that Ashkenazi Jews are, on average, extraordinarily intelligent. I’m not asserting Ashkenazi cognitive specialness because I’m Philo-Semitic, or Zionist, or pro-Israeli. I’m pointing it out because it is irrefutably true.
That said, the question that my essay seeks to unravel is… Why? Why is the IQ of Ashkenazi Jews so high? Is the reason due to their genetics, environment, culture, education, or a unique combination of multiple factors?
In my initial publication of this essay, I provided eight reasons for high Ashkenazi IQ. But then, I received a flurry of email suggestions (many from professors) providing me with additional information. Twenty theories are now listed in this expanded essay, and I’ve attempted to give my sources the credit they deserve, even though – in several instances - I don’t have their actual names, just their Internet chat-monikers. Here’s my new list – many related to each other - presented in roughly chronological order:
Babylonian Eugenics – In 586 B.C.E., Jerusalem was totally destroyed by the Babylonians, led by their monarch Nebuchadnezzar, who “carried into exile… all the officers and fighting men, and all the craftsmen and artisans… only the poorest people of the land were left.” (2Kings 24:10-14) The Indestructible Jews, by Max Dimont, defines the deported people as “the flower of Judah’s aristocracy and intellectuals.”
The exiled Jews of this first Diaspora became highly successful in Babylon. Dimont claims, “In the libraries of Babylon, intellectual Jews found a new world of new ideas. Within five decades, exiled Jews bobbed to the surface of the top echelons on Babylonian society, in business enterprises, in the scholastic world, in court circles. They became leaders in commerce, men of learning, advisors to kings.”
In 538 B.C.E., the Persian king Cyrus the Great granted Jews permission to return to their homeland. Wealthy Jews - who had established successful trade routes and businesses in Babylon - financed zealous returnees who wanted to re-settle Judah. Initial attempts failed, but eventually, 1,760 settlers led by the prophet Ezra and the governor Nehemiah rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem and resurrected the nation. These “Babylonian” Jews returning to Israel discovered that their poorer brethren that were left behind a half-century earlier had slipped away via assimilation, vanishing into neighboring pagan creeds. Cyril Darlington, in his The Evolution of Man and Society, suggests that the temporary separation of the Jewish elite, and permanent removal of the uneducated and unskilled, provided a genetic intellectual boost to the creed.
The returning Jews also instituted two customs that enhanced the mental solidity of their culture’s future. A ban on intermarriage with Gentiles was enforced, and the first five books of Moses were canonized, as the Torah.
People of the Difficult Book: The Torah (the first five books of the Jewish Bible) and the Talmud (recordings of ra*河蟹*ic discussions) are intellectually complex and sophisticated. Practitioners of Judaism are required to learn and study the extensive, mentally rigorous laws. Thematic content of the scriptural passages is not simplistic or literal, it is, conversely, designed for comprehension on multiple, abstract, metaphorical levels. Blind faith and slavish devotion, encouraged by other faiths, is not conducive to Judaism. Instead, worship in the ancient monotheism demands significant literacy skills due to the cognitive demands of the texts, with tradition maintaining that understanding the Talmud requires “study of seven hours a day for seven years.” Charles Murray notes that, “no other religion made so many demands upon the whole body of its believers,” with the subsequent analysis that, “Judaism evolved in such a way that to be a good Jew meant that a man had to be smart.”
Healthy Hygiene & Diet: Professor Sam Lehman-Wilzig of Bar-Ilan University in Israel provided me with this theory. His suggestion is based on the fact that - due to their customary practices - the Jews probably enjoyed better hygiene than Gentiles. He points to the Jewish washing of hands before every meal, the men bathing at least once a week in the “mikveh” (a purification bathhouse) and the women bathing at least once a month, after their menstruation was over. He also notes the restriction on pork prevented Jews from contracting trichinosis. (Famous casualties of this parasitic disease include Gautama Buddha and Wolfgang Mozart). With lower disease rates, Jewish bodies would not have suffered as much as Gentiles and this would have improved their mental capacities.
This notion has been repeated elsewhere. In 1953, research by Johns Hopkins University pharmacologist David I. Macht surmised that all the dozens of meat items banned by Jewish dietary laws in Deuteronomyand Leviticus were, in fact, more toxic than the kosher flesh that was permitted. Additionally, in the recent book Survival of the Sickest, author Sharon Moalem suggests that Jews removing leaven from their homes during Passover helped keep out the rats that spread bubonic plague in the 13th century. Last but not least, wealthy Ashkenazi Jews dwelling in larger houses in eastern Europe would have survived epidemics easier because they didn’t suffer the same high multiple infection rate that occurred in smaller homes with greater crowding.
Extensive correlation between high IQ, healthy diet, infectious diseases, sanitation, and home crowding, is examined via research studies in later chapters of this book, particularly in “Early Years.”

Education Emphasized, Way Back in B.C. – Jeremiah Unterman of Jerusalem informed me that the Torah instructs every Jewish father to teach the Torah to his children, and Marisa Landau notes on a futurepundit.com 6/4/05 discussion that it’s forbidden by the Jewish religion to keep child illiterate. Additionally, Landau reports that Jewish women learned to read and write, a phenomenon that was unique in the ancient world. Landau also mentions that it has long been a custom among Jews to provide a full pension - for up to 10 years – to an intelligent son-in-law who wishes to entirely devote himself to study. The Jews, it seems, invented the notion of “scholarships.”
In the medieval era, the French monk, Peter Abelard (1079-1142) penned this about Jewish education: “A Jew, however poor, even if he had ten sons, would get them all to letters, not for gain as the Christians do, but for understanding of God’s law. And not only for his sons, but his daughters.”
Mandatory Schools For Males - In 64 A.D., the high priest Joshua ben Gamla issued and implemented an ordinance mandating schools for all boys, beginning at age 6. Within 100 years, Jews had established universal male literacy and numeracy, the first ethnicity in history to achieve this.

2018.10.08 22:02 Ainsoph777 The CIA and the Vatican’s Intelligence Apparatus, By Martin A. Lee July/August 1983 Issue Mother Jones

source : http://churchandstate.org.uk/2013/04/cia-and-the-vaticans-intelligence-apparatus/
The article goes into the comment section a bit, there wasn't enough space to fit it all in the text slot for a reddit post

: "One day in July 1944, as the Second World War raged throughout Europe, General William “Wild Bill” Donovan was ushered into an ornate chamber in Vatican City for an audience with Pope Pius XII. Donovan bowed his head reverently as the pontiff intoned a ceremonial prayer in Latin and decorated him with the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Sylvester, the oldest and most prestigious of papal knighthoods. This award has been given to only 100 other men in history, who “by feat of arms, or writings, or outstanding deeds, have spread the Faith, and have safeguarded and championed the Church.”
Although a papal citation of this sort rarely, if ever, states why a person is inducted into the “Golden Militia,” there can be no doubt that Donovan earned his knighthood by virtue of the services he rendered to the Catholic hierarchy in World War II, during which he served as chief of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the wartime predecessor to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). In 1941, the year before the OSS was officially constituted, Donovan forged a close alliance with Father Felix Morlion, founder of a European Catholic intelligence service known as Pro Deo. When the Germans overran western Europe, Donovan helped Morlion move his base of operations from Lisbon to New York. From then on, Pro Deo was financed by Donovan, who believed that such an expenditure would result in valuable insight into the secret affairs of the Vatican, then a neutral enclave in the midst of fascist Rome. When the Allies liberated Rome in 1944, Morlion re-established his spy network in the Vatican; from there he helped the OSS obtain confidential reports provided by apostolic delegates in the Far East, which included information about strategic bombing targets in Japan.
Pope Pius’ decoration of Wild Bill Donovan marked the beginning of a long-standing, intimate relationship between the Vatican and U.S. intelligence that continues to the present day. For centuries the Vatican has been a prime target of foreign espionage. One of the world’s greatest repositories of raw intelligence, it is a spy’s gold mine. Ecclesiastical, political and economic information filters in every day from thousands of priests, bishops and papal nuncios, who report regularly from every corner of the globe to the Office of the Papal Secretariat. So rich was this source of data that shortly after the war, the CIA created a special unit in its counterintelligence section to tap it and monitor developments within the Holy See.
But the CIA’s interest in the Catholic church is not limited to intelligence gathering. The Vatican, with its immense wealth and political influence, has in recent years become a key force in global politics, particularly with Catholicism playing such a pivotal role in Eastern Europe and Latin America. Unbeknownst to most Catholics, the Vatican, which carefully maintains an apolitical image, not only has a foreign office and a diplomatic corps, but also has a foreign policy. And with Polish Communists embracing Catholicism and Latin American Catholics embracing communism, the U.S. government and particularly the CIA have recently taken a much greater interest in Vatican foreign policy. A year-long Mother Jones investigation has revealed a number of unlikely channels — both overt and covert — which the agency uses to bring its influence to bear upon that policy.
Since World War II, the CIA has:
It was in this last regard that the CIA supported factions within the Catholic church that were instrumental in promoting and electing the current pope, John Paul II, whose Polish nationalism and anti-Communist credentials, they thought, would make him a perfect vehicle for U.S. foreign policy. John Paul’s recent trip to Nicaragua could not have been matched by any American’s for the contribution it made to President Reagan’s Central American initiative. And hopes are high in Washington, D.C., that the pope’s forth-coming trip to Poland, where 90 percent of the people are Catholic, will respark the anti-Soviet uprising so vital to Reagan’s plans for Eastern Europe.

Dark Knight of the Soul
Every year in late June a bizarre ritual takes place in Rome. Men and women fly in from all over the world to participate in a ceremony that has been performed for centuries. Next year, the assembled might find CIA director William Casey in their midst. And Casey could well be accompanied by former Secretary of State Alexander Haig.
If they make the journey, Casey and Haig will join a gathering of the world’s Catholic elite on St. John’s Day. Dressed in scarlet uniforms and black capes, brandishing swords and waving flags emblazoned with the eight-pointed Maltese cross, these Catholic brothers and sisters will, in an atmosphere of pomp and circumstance befitting a coronation, swear allegiance to the defense of the Holy Mother Church.
Casey and Haig are both members of the Knights of Malta, a legendary Vatican order dating back to the Crusades, when the “warrior monks” served as the military arm of the Catholic church. The knights, in their latter-day incarnation as the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM), are a historical anomaly. Although the order has no land mass other than a small headquarters in Rome, this unique papal entity holds the status of nation-state. It mints coins, prints stamps, has its own constitution and issues license plates and passports to an accredited diplomatic corps. The grand master of the order, Fra Angelo de Mojana di Cologna, holds a rank in the church equal to a cardinal and is recognized as a sovereign chief of state by 41 nations with which the SMOM exchanges ambassadors.
But the real power of the order lies with the lay members, who are active on five continents. Nobility forms the backbone of the SMOM; more than 40 percent of its 10,000 constituents are related to Europe’s oldest and most powerful Catholic families. Wealth is a de facto prerequisite for a knightly candidate, and each must pass through a rigorous screening. Protestants, Jews, Muslims and divorced or separated Catholics are ineligible.
“The eight-pointed white cross stands out everywhere as a symbol of charity toward mankind and as a comfort and consolation to the sick and the poor,” says Cyril Toumanoff, official historian of the SMOM. In recent years its members have carried on the Hospitaler tradition of the original knights by supporting international health care and relief efforts. They proudly offer aid to the needy regardless of race, creed or religious affiliation.
But the needy aided by certain SMOM members in the late ’40s were some of the 50,000 Nazi war criminals who, with the assistance of the International Red Cross, were furnished fake Vatican passports and, in some cases, clerical robes, and were smuggled on Bishop Alois Hudal’s “underground railroad” to South America. Among those was Klaus Barbie, the “butcher of Lyons.”
In 1948, the SMOM gave one of its highest awards of honor, the Gran Croci al Merito con Placca, to General Reinhard Gehlen, Adolf Hitler’s chief anti-Soviet spy. (Only three other people received this award.) Gehlen, who was not a Catholic, was touted as a formidable ally in the holy crusade against godless Marxism. After the war he and his well-developed spy apparatus — staffed largely by ex-Nazis — joined the fledgling CIA. Eventually, hundreds more Nazis ended up on the U.S. government’s payroll. Among them was Klaus Barbie.
“The CIA very early on made a decision that Nazis were more valuable as allies and agents than as war criminals,” says Victor Marchetti, an ex-CIA officer who was raised a Catholic. Marchetti is disturbed by the role of the CIA and his church in perpetuating the Nazi outrage. “It gets a little crazy,” he said, “when you let one thing [anticommunism] take over to the extent that you forgive everything else.”
The SMOM had given a different prestigious award in 1946 to another high-level CIA operative, James Jesus Angleton. “It had to do with counterintelligence,” Angleton told Mother Jones, when asked why he was chosen for such a distinction. During World War II, Angleton was head of the Rome station of the OSS. Later, on his return to Washington, he ran what was tantamount to the “Vatican desk” for the CIA. According to Angleton, the agency does not have a Vatican desk. Nor does it have an Israel desk, for that matter, yet Angleton also covered that area. The extreme sensitivity associated with Israel and the Vatican required that work relating to them be buried among Angleton’s counterintelligence staff, which was well-suited for such assignments.
During the early years of the Cold War, Angleton organized an elaborate spy network that enabled the CIA to obtain intelligence reports sent to the Vatican by papal nuncios stationed behind the Iron Curtain and in other “denied” areas. This was, at the time, one of the few means available to the CIA of penetrating the Eastern Bloc.
According to previously classified State Department memoranda, Angleton recommended that the CIA fund Catholic Action, an Italian lay organization headed by Luigi Gedda, a prominent right-wing ideologue who had also been honored by the knights. Gedda was a key operative in an effort undertaken by the CIA and the Vatican to “barricade the Reds” in the 1948 Italian elections. Only weeks before the election, it appeared the Italian Communist party would prevail. The CIA and the Vatican both feared the Communists might win unless drastic measures were taken.
At the behest of Pope Pius XII, Gedda mobilized a huge propaganda machine. More than 18,000 “civic committees” were formed to get out the anti-Communist vote. The Christian Democrats scored a decisive victory. Catholic Action is credited with turning the tables.
Catholic Action continued to be a dominant factor in Italian politics throughout the Cold War. It had great influence on trade unions and youth groups in Italy-groups that were heavily subsidized by the CIA, then under the leadership of Alien Dulles. Christian Democratic politicians and church figures were also among the beneficiaries of the CIA’s largess, which exceeded $20 million per year in the 1950s. The agency provided “project money” to numerous priests and bishops, usually in the form of contributions to their favorite charities. Often, these prelates were unaware of the true source of these funds. “We would consider people of this sort as our allies,” recalls Victor Marchetti, “even though they may not consider themselves in any way allied with us.”
Amazing Grace
The American section of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta has about 1,000 members — including 300 “dames.” They represent the vanguard of American Catholicism, the point at which the Vatican and the U.S. ruling elite intersect. “The Knights of Malta comprise what is perhaps the most exclusive club on earth,” Stephen Birmingharn, the social historian, has written. “They are more than the Catholic aristocracy…[they] can pick up a telephone and chat with the pope.”
And who are the American Knights? Mother Jones managed to obtain part of the secret membership list. On it we found some familiar names: Lee lacocca of Chrysler; Spyros Skouras, the shipping magnate; Robert Abplanalp, the aerosol tycoon and Nixon confidant; Barren Hilton of the hotel chain; John Volpe, former U.S. ambassador to Italy; and William Simon, who served as both treasury secretary and energy czar in the 1970s. At least one former envoy to the Vatican, Robert Wagner (the ex-mayor of New York), and the current emissary to the Vatican, William Wilson, are also members of the Knights of Malta. But there is one institution that stands out as the center of the SMOM in the United States — W.R. Grace & Company. J. Peter Grace, the company chairman, is also president of the American section of SMOM. No less than eight knights, including the chancellor of the order, John D.J. Moore (who was ambassador to Ireland under Nixon and Ford), are directors of W.R. Grace.
J. Peter Grace has a long history of involvement with CIA-linked enterprises, such as Radio Liberty and Radio Free Europe, which was the brainchild of General Rein-hard Gehlen. He is also the board chairman of the American Institute for Free Labor Development (AIFLD), which has collaborated with multinational corporations and their client dictatorships in Latin America to squelch independent trade unions. Up to $100 million a year of CIA funds were pumped into “trustworthy” labor organizations such as AIFLD, whose graduates, according to AIFLD executive director William Doherty, were active in covert operations that led to the military coup in Brazil in 1964. During the early 1970s, Francis D. Flanagan, the Grace representative in Washington, D. C., was a member of ITT’s “Ad Hoc Committee on Chile,” which was instrumental in planning the overthrow of Salvador Allende. AIFLD’s National Workers’ Con-federation subsequently served as the chief labor mouthpiece for the Pinochet junta.
There are many other knights with CIA connections. Clare Boothe Luce, for example, the grande dame of American diplomacy, served as a U.S. ambassador to Italy in the 1950s and is now a member of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, which oversees covert operations. William Buckley, Jr., a former CIA operative and the editor of the National Review, is a member, as is his brother James, a former senator from New York and now undersecretary of state for security assistance.
Targeting the Pope
The American section of the SMOM is one of the main channels of communication between the CIA and the Vatican. Of course, neither party will acknowledge this. “The Knights of Malta is an honorific society of Catholics. That’s all it is. … It has no political function,” asserts former CIA director William Colby, who declined an invitation to join the illustrious order. (“I’m a little lower key,” he confessed.)
Technically speaking, Colby is correct; the knights do not have an explicit political function. They would never approach the Vatican with a message from the CIA. Nor would the Vatican ever openly ally itself with the political aims of the CIA. “Obviously, this is a dynamite type of proposition,” explains Victor Marchetti. “I’m sure that in the clandestine area there was real consideration of how to influence the Vatican, but you’ll never find a paper trail within the agency establishing an operational objective. A covert action of this sort is a very complex and sophisticated sort of thing…How much pressure the CIA would dare to exert on the Vatican is debatable. It would have to be done indirectly, on an informal basis.”
This is where the American section of the SMOM fits in. “They all belong to the same club,” says Marchetti. “One happens to be the director of the CIA, and another is a cardinal. When they get together and fraternize on a social basis, they exchange ideas and opinions as private individuals. But how do you separate the private individual from the professional?”
During the 1950s and the early 1960s, relations between the U.S. and the Vatican were conducted largely through Francis Cardinal Spellman, the “Grand Protector and Spiritual Advisor” to the SMOM’s American wing. An ultra-conservative ideologue, Spellman served as the right arm of Pope Pius XII and was a vocal supporter of U. S. military involvement in Vietnam.
But relations have not always been smooth, because Vatican policy has not always pleased American knights. In the early 1960s, Pope John XXIII took major steps to liberalize the church and to open a dialogue with the East. By doing so, he shifted papal policy from the strict anti-Communist line of his predecessor, Pius XII.
John XXIII felt that the Vatican had to adopt a more flexible posture — both socially and politically — if the church was to endure as a relevant institution. His attempts at rapprochement with the Soviet Union caught everybody by surprise and sent Vatican watchers at the CIA into a frenzy. But the agency had to step up its intelligence activity in the Vatican most cautiously, as the Kennedy ad-ministration was bending over backward to avoid any overt association with the Holy See. Kennedy, America’s only Catholic president, was so consumed by the possibility of a Protestant backlash that he rebuffed the pope’s efforts to mediate a thaw in East-West relations. Meanwhile Khrushchev, the supposed atheist, welcomed the pontiffs diplomatic overtures.
In May 1963, John McCone, a member of the SMOM and then director of the CIA, received a memorandum from James Spain, of the agency’s Office of National Estimates, on the ramifications of Pope John’s policies. There is “no doubt,” wrote Spain in the recently declassified 15-page memo, entitled “Change in the Church,” “that vigorous new currents are flowing in virtually every phase of the church’s thinking and activities. . . . [this has] resulted in a new approach toward Italian politics which is permissive rather than positive.”
When Spain visited the Vatican, posing as a scholar on a foreign service grant, he voiced his concerns about major gains made by the Italian Left in the 1963 election. Many felt the Left’s success was attributable to Pope John’s conciliatory attitude toward the Communists. This was the first election in which the Christian Democrats were not officially endorsed by the Italian Bishops’ Conference. The pope had insisted upon maintaining a neutral stance so as not to jeopardize his Soviet initiative.
Speaking with officials of the Curia, Spain discovered a great deal of discontent regarding the direction in which the church was moving. Some even suggested to him that the pope was “politically naive and unduly influenced by a handful of ‘liberal’ clerics.” He heard tales about “the moral and political unreliability of [the pope’s] young collaborators.” Among those who were particularly concerned by Pope John’s policies, according to Spain’s report to McCone, were members of the Roman aristocracy and the papal nobility, who, according to Spain, had lost many of their traditional privileges when Pius XII died.
A Holy Mole
John McCone now took a personal as well as professional interest in the Vatican situation. Thomas Kalamasinas, the station chief in Rome, was instructed to raise the priority of the Vatican spying operation. But the CIA ran into a snag when it learned that some of its best contacts — for example, the conservative prelates who held key posts in the Extraordinary Affairs Section of the Papal Secretariat, which was responsible for the implementation of Vatican foreign policy — were shut out by John XXIII’s tendency to circumvent his own bureaucracy when dealing with the Russians. The pope evidently feared that his diplomatic efforts might be sabotaged by some Machiavellian monsignor. Thus, he pursued his goal outside the normal channels of the Curia. A small group of trusted collaborators served as couriers for the pope, who rarely used the telephone to speak with anyone outside the Vatican for fear that the line might be tapped.
When John XXIII died in 1963, CIA analysts prepared a detailed report predicting that Giovanni Cardinal Montini of Milan would be the next pope. They were right. But more amazing than the prediction is the fact that the agency was later able to confirm the identity of John’s successor in advance of the official announcement. How was the CIA privy to such information, given the excessive secrecy surrounding the College of Cardinals during a papal election? Italian intelligence sources maintained that the CIA bugged the conclave. Time magazine correspondent Roland Flamini speculates in his book Pope, Premier, President that the agency may have developed an informant among the cardinals, who communicated with the CIA through a hidden electronic transmitter.
Giovanni Montini was no stranger to American intelligence. During World War II, he worked in the Office of the Papal Secretariat and passed information to a grateful OSS. Later he had a falling out with Pope Pius XII and was “exiled” to Milan. This news was well-received by Vatican watchers within the CIA, who had pegged Montini as a “liberal”. Nevertheless, he remained an important figure in the church, with extensive religious and political contacts. Every CIA station chief in Italy made a point of getting to know him, and CIA “project money” was donated to various orphanages and charities whose principal benefactor was the archbishop of Milan.
When Montini became pope, taking the name Paul VI, he continued to pursue an open-door policy with the Soviet Union. Leaders from Eastern Europe were received on state visits (Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko had seven meetings with Pope Paul), and many Vatican officials traveled to Moscow for talks. Toward the end of his papacy, Paul VI let it be known that he was not averse to a center-left coalition of the Italian Communist party and the Christian Democrats. This infuriated hard-line elements within the CIA. In 1976, the Georgetown University Center for Strategic and International Studies, a conservative think tank, sponsored a conference on the Communist threat in Italy. Panelists included former CIA director William Colby (who was station chief in Rome during the 1950s); Clare Boothe Luce, who was U.S. ambassador to Rome at the same time; Ray Cline, another ex-CIA official; and John Connally, then a member of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. Their message, which doubtless reached the pope, was unequivocal: Eurocommunism was a threat to U.S. security, and Marxists must never be allowed to participate in the Italian government.
This was not the first time pressures from outside the Vatican were exerted on Pope Paul. In 1967, Paul authored a controversial encyclical, Populorum Progressio, in which he criticized colonial repression and recommended economic and social remedies that were widely interpreted as a denunciation of capitalism. Shortly thereafter, an international group of businessmen asked the Holy Father to “clarify” his economic views. The delegation included George C. Moore, then chairman of Citibank. Pope Paul subsequently issued a statement in which he denied any hostility toward private enterprise.
Liberation Theology
Classified CIA studies prepared throughout the 1960s with titles such as “The Catholic Church Reassesses Its Role in Latin America” depicted a church with a commitment to economic and political reform. The studies foresaw the emergence of “liberation theology,” which would provide the theoretical basis for a “people’s church” that would establish itself in Latin America in the early 1970s. Pope Paul helped fulfill the CIA’s predictions by appointing socially conscious bishops and by encouraging church activists who opposed South American military dictatorships. Paul’s gesture toward the Left was, no doubt, a calculated maneuver directed at the hearts and minds of the Catholic masses. Political reality demanded the promotion of a palatable Christian alternative, lest the brethren put their faith in “Saint” Fidel or Che Guevara. At first, some CIA officials favored Paul’s reformist approach as an effective antidote to communism, but as time went by a consensus developed inside the agency that Paul VI had gone too far, that his strategy would backfire and play into the hands of the Marxist revolutionaries.
As Pope Paul VI grew older, great concern developed within intelligence circles over who would succeed him. Agency analysts drew up profiles on leading papal candidates, identifying those who were likely to be sympathetic to American interests. In 1977, Terence Cardinal Cooke, the current Grand Protector and Spiritual Advisor of the SMOM, traveled to Eastern Europe to discuss the matter of choosing a candidate to succeed Pope Paul. During this sojourn, Cardinal Cooke met personally with Karol Cardinal Wojtyla of Krakow, who was noted for his anti-Communist leanings. Cooke’s coalition-building efforts bore fruit the following year, after Paul’s successor, Pope John Paul I, died, having served scarcely a month. (There were widespread rumors that he had been poisoned.) In October 1978, the Vatican’s Sacred College of Cardinals elected Karol Wojtyla as pontiff.
The New Inquisition
October 1976. Father Patrick Rice is dragged from his prison cell in Buenos Aires by members of the Argentine Anti-Communist Alliance, a paramilitary police agency. He has already been held incommunicado for several days and has been beaten ruthlessly. The routine is about to begin again: electric shock treatment, water torture that makes him feel as if he is drowning. Throughout the ordeal he hears the screams of other prisoners. Eventually he is transferred to police headquarters, in which are passage walls covered with swastikas.
“My Christian faith became very real to me,” remembers the priest, who survived two months of captivity and recovered in a psychiatric ward.
Father Rice is one of the lucky ones. During the past 15 years, 1,500 priests, nuns and bishops have been murdered, imprisoned, tortured or expelled from Latin America. “Any Christian who defends the poor,” says Rice, “can expect to be persecuted and mistreated by the security police.”
Only a generation ago, the persecution of the Catholic clergy would have been unthinkable, for the church had always sided with the reactionary sectors of society — the wealthy landowners and the military. But Pope John XXII’s vision of Catholicism as a community of believers in and of the world sparked major reforms. His policies set the stage for the historic gathering of Latin American bishops that took place during the papacy of Paul VI at Medellin, Colombia, in 1968. It was at this conference that the liberation theology predicted by the CIA earlier in the decade was born. The bishops called upon the church to “defend the rights of the oppressed” and recognize a “preferential option for the poor” in the struggle for social justice.
Liberation theology came to life in the form of thousands of grassroots Christian communities that sprang up throughout Latin America, where nine out of ten people are Catholic, and eight out of ten are destitute. Within these groups, religion became less a ritualistic phenomenon and more an inspiration to clergy and laity attempting to remove the yoke of oppression from the poor. Some priests even began to align themselves with the left-wing guerrillas engaged in armed struggle against U.S.-backed regimes. “The Christian base communities are the greatest threat to military dictatorships throughout Latin America,” said Maryknoll Sister Ita Ford in late 1980, three weeks before she, two other American nuns and Jean Donovan, a lay missionary worker, were brutally murdered in El Salvador.
The CIA was quick to recognize the “subversive” potential of liberation theology and mounted an extensive campaign to undermine the new movement. The agency’s strategy, formulated during the late 1960s and early ’70s, when Richard Helms was director, was to exploit the polarization between the activist clergy and those who still identified with the established order (the holdovers from the Cold War era, when missionaries were routinely employed as agents and informants). Toward this end, as Penny Lernoux documents in her book Cry of the People, the CIA used right-wing Catholic organizations in Latin America to harass outspoken prelates and political reformers. The agency also trained and financed police agencies responsible for the torture and murder of bishops, priests and nuns, some of them U.S. citizens.
In 1975, the Bolivian Interior Ministry — a publicly acknowledged subsidiary of the CIA — drew up a master plan for persecuting progressive clergy. The scheme, dubbed the “Banzer Plan” — after Hugo Banzer, Bolivia’s right-wing dictator (who retained Klaus Barbie as his security advisor) — was adopted by ten Latin American governments. The plan involved compiling dossiers on church activists; censoring and shutting down progressive Catholic media outlets; planting Communist literature on church premises; and arresting or expelling undesirable foreign priests and nuns. The CIA also funded anti-Marxist religious groups that engaged in a wide range of covert operations, from bombing churches to overthrowing constitutionally elected governments. The success of the Banzer Plan was vividly demonstrated in San Salvador in the late 1970s, when an anonymous group distributed a leaflet that read: “Be a Patriot! Kill a Priest!” A series of clerical assassinations followed, culminating in the murder of the progressive and popular Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero. More recently, the Reagan administration has sharpened its attack on progressive elements of the church, both at home and abroad. The Santa Fe Report, prepared for the Council for Inter-American Security and presented in 1980 to the Republican Platform Committee by a team of ultraconservative advisors, states that “U.S. foreign policy must begin to counter (not react against) liberation theology as it is utilized in Latin America by the ‘liberation theology’ clergy.” In order to garner support for this policy, the Institute for Religion and Democracy (IRD), an interdenominational organization, was established in 1981 with funding from right-wing institutions, including the Smith ‘Richardson and Sarah Scaife foundations, both of which have served as CIA financial conduits. The IRD unleashed a propaganda drive against church activists at the forefront of domestic opposition to U.S. aid to the government of El Salvador and other repressive regimes in Latin America. The IRD campaign has been highly successful, even reaching the pages of Reader’s Digest, from where it was picked up by 60 Minutes.
The Holy Mafia
Under Casey, the CIA has continued its attack on progressive elements within the church. Casey is also a member of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.
Of all the groups that are engaged in the U.S.-sponsored campaign against liberation theology, none has played a more significant role than Opus Dei (“God’s Work”). A fast-growing Catholic lay society whose political activities are shrouded in secrecy, Opus Dei was founded in 1928 by Jose Maria Escriva de Balaguer, a young Spanish priest and lawyer. Escriva espoused complete obedience to church dogma. Today, there are more than 70,000 members of the order in 87 countries. Only a small percentage are priests. The rest are mostly middle- and upper-class businessmen, professionals, military personnel and government officials. Some are university students. The members contribute regularly to the group’s financial coffers and are encouraged to practice “holy shrewdness” and “holy coercion” in an effort to win converts.
Much of what is known about Opus Dei comes from ex-members such as John Roche, a professor at Oxford University in England, who broke his oath of secrecy after leaving the order. According to Roche, self-flagellation with whips and spiked chains is a normal part of the rigid spiritual discipline that Opus Dei imposes on its full-time members, including college-age recruits of both genders. “Personal identity suffers a severe battering: some are reduced to shadows of their former selves, others become severely disturbed,” writes Roche in a paper called “The Inner World of Opus Dei.” “Internally, it is totalitarian and imbued with fascist ideas turned to religious purposes, ideas which were surely drawn from the Spain of its early years. It is virtually a sect or cult in spirit, a law unto itself, totally self-centered, grudgingly accepting Roman authority because it still considers Rome orthodox, and because of the vast pool of recruits accessible to it as a respected Catholic organization.”
In recent years, Opus Dei has emerged internationally as one of the most powerful and politically committed of the Catholic lay groups. Detractors have likened the organization to a “saintly Mafia,” for its members control a large number of banks and financial institutions, including Rumasa, the largest conglomerate in Spain’s private sector. In the latter stages of the Franco regime, ten out of 19 cabinet officers belonged to or were closely allied with Opus Dei. Despite the active political role the order plays wherever it exists, Father Malcolm Kennedy, an American spokesperson for Opus Dei, insists it is “inconceivable…that Opus Dei leaders in any country would try to influence political decisions.”
The tentacles of “Octopus Dei,” as it is sometimes called, stretch all the way to the U.S., where David Kennedy, former chairman of Continental Illinois Bank and treasury secretary under Richard Nixon, is said to be a “conspicuous friend” of the conservative religious order, despite the fact that he is a Mormon. Continental Illinois owns shares of an Opus Dei bank in Barcelona (for more on Kennedy’s links to the church, see box, page 37).
Opus Dei also controls a wide range of media assets (600 newspapers, 52 radio and TV stations, 12 film companies and 38 news agencies) and sponsors educational and social programs in various countries. These efforts have been endorsed by members of the American section of the SMOM such as William Simon (Citicorp) and Francis X. Stankard (Chase Manhattan Bank), who have spoken at Opus Dei seminars and other functions of the group.
“One of the problems that Opus Dei runs into,” says Sargent Shriver, a cooperating (not full-time) member of the order and a former Democratic candidate for vice president, “is that a lot of Catholics join the organization, and they’re doing this, that and the other thing, and Opus Dei becomes tainted because of them.”
This is particularly true in Latin America. In Chile, for example, Opus Dei elicited support from Chilean bishops for the overthrow of President Salvador Allende and worked closely with CIA-funded organizations such as the Fatherland and Liberty goon squads, which subsequently merged with DINA, the dreaded Chilean secret police. In 1971, the CIA began financing the Chilean Institute for General Studies (IGS), which has been described as an Opus Dei think tank. Its members include lawyers, free-market economists and executives from influential publications. One of the leading IGS staffers was Hernan Cubillos, founder of Que Pasa, an Opus Dei magazine, and publisher of El Mercurio, the largest newspaper in Santiago (and one that was subsidized by the CIA). After the coup, a number of IGS technocrats became cabinet members and advisors to the Pinochet junta; Cubillos served as foreign minister.
Opus Dei powerbrokers have gained enormous influence inside the Vatican since they helped install the current pope. The courting of John Paul II began when he was still the archbishop of Krakow. He was asked to speak at Opus Dei colleges and at the group’s international headquarters in Rome. In an effort to enhance Wojtyla’s image as papabile, these speeches were printed by Opus Dei in book form and circulated among members of the Vatican hierarchy. When Karol Wojtyla became pope, he returned the favor by elevating Opus Dei to the unique status of a “personal prelature.” Critics of Opus Dei fear that the pope’s edict will allow its members to elude the authority of local bishops in special circumstances, thereby strengthening the order’s tendency to function as a “church within a church.” This was an important victory for Opus Dei, which had been rebuffed on previous occasions by both Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul VI.
The decision to upgrade the status of Opus Dei appears to be part of an over-all strategy to counter the influence of Jesuits and other progressive clerics active in the liberation theology movement. Pope John Paul II’s feud with the Jesuits came to a head in October 1981, when he suspended the order’s constitution and replaced its ailing superior general, Father Pedro Arrupe, with a Jesuit of his own choosing. Many Jesuits have caused turmoil in the ‘Vatican by questioning papal pronouncements on birth control, priestly celibacy, the barring of women from the priesthood and, most significantly, clerical involvement in politics. Because it is predominantly a lay organization, Opus Dei is exempt from these rules. The pope recently asked leaders of Opus Dei, which thus far has kept out of Communist countries, to begin operating in Poland.
It is rather ironic that John Paul II should chastise priests for engaging in political activity when he is by far the most overtly political pope of modern times. A strong patriot, John Paul has even threatened to fight alongside his countrymen should the Soviets try to crush the workers’ rebellion in Poland. And his political activism has not only included well-publicized trips and rhetorical speeches. With his approval, the Vatican quietly funneled $40 million to Solidarity. But despite the pontiff’s support for the Polish union — and the issuing of an encyclical in strong defense of the rights of labor — his sympathies do not extend to the rights of workers in Vatican City: he has opposed demands for decent wages by the Vatican’s low-paid employees, and there have even been rumblings of a possible strike.

2018.08.07 18:58 s_team337 Progress Report 31: Prosperity can come through peace alone (Weimar Germany)

Hello and welcome to Progress Report 31 for Calm Before the Storm. Today we’ll be taking a look at the last possible case for Germany: the Survival of the Weimar Republic. The Weimar Republic paths are the most powerful and most fun paths out of all of them, so I hope that you enjoy this look at how it works.
For those who don’t remember (or have never read) Progress Report 9, the Germany’s government type is chosen by an event one month into the game upon the resignation of Reichskanzler Kurt von Schleicher. Hindenburg has the option to continue with democracy, denouncing extremism and switching your tag to the German Republic tag. Of course, this features the return of Victoria 2’s Coffee-Colored Germany. The first course of action for Weimar Germany will be to choose a new Reichskanzler.
First, let’s take a look at the different parties in play in Weimar Germany. As the event shows, there are five different governments that Weimar Germany can use, with a total of six of the ideologies involved.
The next thing to do is prepare for the March Elections, which is done by a branch of the political focus tree. Not all of these focuses immediately affect your country, however, some of them unlock laws in the Reichstag for you to begin debating and negotiations for. These laws are short. Instead of the usual 60 or 45 day laws, these take seven days to work out due to the impending election. For this PR, I will use the Social Liberals as an example. In the events I have chosen them to be the Ruling Party, and I have successfully negotiated for these laws (and for the DStP, negotiation is very important, as they only start with 2 seats out of nearly 600!). Here’s what we’re at now. Building up popularity is very important for two reasons. One, for a party to be visible in the event, it has to have over 5% popularity. The DVP is not visible because it only has 3%. And yes, the game will account for the parties being split. Be careful, as if you play your cards wrong (or right), it is possible to play the entire game with a two-party competition between the Zentrumspartei and SPD. Second, it is very important to build up support so you will have more seats in the Reichstag, as the seats are determined dynamically. Here is the seat allotment before the election. And here is the seat allotment after (I’m going to elect the Social Liberals Again). If you care to examine the new numbers, it should work out. As you can see, a 142-seat swing for the DStP has just occurred because they managed to build up support.
After 1933, the elections go back to their usual four-year cycle, with elections in ‘36, ‘40, ‘44, and ‘48. However, there are also presidential elections to consider. In 1934, President Hindenburg dies, and Erwin Bumke, his previously agreed-upon successor, takes over. He continues as President until 1938 (Weimar Presidential elections were on a six-year cycle). A short while before the election itself, you have to select your party’s candidate for President. Other parties will use their default, in the DStP’s case it is Erich Koch-Weser. However, I will be choosing Otto Nuschke. After some time, the election will occur. (This should say 1938, but [Date.GetYear], everybody). You are not locked to any candidate by any party. I am going to choose Ludwig Kaas. Even if I flip to Democratic Socialist, he would still be President. There are two Presidential election events. The first is in ‘38, the second is in ‘44. Here are all the possible leaders for Weimar Germany, by our amazing artist Urukukhai.
Once the election of 1933 is out of the way, you can begin on its focus tree. It is as linear as the Nationalist and Socialist ones are, but there is a way to change this, which will be covered later in the PR. The 1936 Election tree and 1940 Election tree are much the same as the previous ones.
The Economy
There are two ways to handle the economy: You either need to reform it, or you can stick with the old ways. In the Reform category, you can either choose to implement Radical Reforms, and move towards a socialist economy, or Steady Reforms, and move towards a Keynesian point of view. The first part of the focus tree will deal with compensating for the economic crisis: After declaring the crisis over (by decision), you can then begin further reforming the economy. You should notice that there are less and less focuses as you go from the Left to the Right. This represents the level of government intervention in the economy. Socialism would require more government interventionism, while Market Liberalism would mandate less.
Moderate measures include either instituting Austerity Measures or attempting to Privatize Social Services. Austerity Measures will give you maluses (which will give you political power in exchange), while Privatization takes away consumer goods factories. After the Crisis is over, the rest of the tree opens up. The Austerity tree will focus on removing the maluses and returning to true status quo, and the Privatization tree will focus on approaching other countries and securing trade agreements. For example, you can negotiate with Ford Motor Company; either to bring a factory to Germany or to assist German experts in studying FMC’s Industrial Practices.
None of the economic paths are restricted to any ideology path. For example, you can choose Radical Reform as the Conservative party, or Austerity as the Social Liberal party. The only two exceptions are, obviously, that the Socialists cannot do Privatization and the Market Liberals cannot do Radical Reform. However, be careful, as when you pick an economic model, you will increase the popularity of the corresponding ideology. This can lead to those parties having more seats in the Reichstag, giving you more opposition to your policies.
Military
The first step in recovering your military strength will be to renegotiate the Treaty of Versailles with the French. This will trigger an event chain in which France will have the ability to determine the degree of rearmament. What this effectively does is allow Germany a limited re-armament. A five year plan would allow for a more limited re-armament but and eight year plan would obviously last longer. No matter the French decision, you can always either rescind your request or you can re-arm regardless. Should the Germans decide to re-arm despite French restrictions, the French will be able to take action. And it’s not that fun for a 10-Division Germany. After that, the military tree should look familiar. I should not have to spend much time explaining this, but it basically encourage you to specialize your research. The naval tree is much the same, as is the air force tree.
Foreign Policy
The first foreign policy decision is triggered by the first focus of the Branch. In this event, you have to choose your foreign policy stance: Neutral, Balanced, or Offensive. Neutrality locks you out of your Foreign Policy tree. Some important foreign policy events (like the Saarland plebiscite) will become available by decision, but it is more restrictive. Status quo will not change the gameplay, but Intervention will add a new host of decisions. Using the console, I turned Switzerland Communist. Germany can invade any Fascist, Communist, or Revolutionary Socialist country on its border, provided that the Versailles Treaty has been dealt with and you have picked the intervention option.
The second choice is the direction of your foreign policy. Choosing to align with the West leads to research and trade agreements with the French and/or British, and would allow you to join their Factions. Remilitarizing the Rhineland is done like in the DDR, where the French can choose the extent of your remilitarization, which you can defy at the risk of invasion. As I said before, if you do not choose to align with the West, the Saarland plebiscite and the Rhineland will be more restrictive.
You can instead choose to form your own faction if you do not want to align with the West - The Berlin Accords (pay no attention to the big Switzerland, this was done through console). Through the focus tree, it is possible to expand the faction to include 10 nations. You can optionally swap an alliance with Yugoslavia with an alliance with Italy.
This focus tree has three sections. The first deals with Scandinavia and the Baltic, the second with Central Europe and the Balkans, and the third specifically with Czechia and Poland. You might notice that there is a lack of invasion options. Offensive wars are either covered by the Interventions, or - under very specific conditions - by the Reichstag.
Traditions
If you choose to re-elect the ruling party in 1936 or 1940 then you unlock the Traditions Tree for that party. They are dynamic trees that replace the default political trees. They go further in depth and allow for more sweeping reforms. They also have powerful finishers that you can’t get in the default tree. Each party will have this kind of event that unlocks the tree.
The Socialist Tradition tree will allow the party to go further through with Socialism or back off and move towards Social Democracy. The Socialist Branch will deal with improving women’s rights and going forwards with some Socialist Economic Reforms. Reforming the Program will allow the government to focus on improving welfare, cutting military spending, and trying the lead Nazis for treason.
Social Liberal Traditions give the choice with maintaining the party program or moving to an Ordoliberal program. Maintaining the program focuses more on politics, while reforming the program focuses more on reforming the economy on Ordoliberal lines. This is the economic policy which brought prosperity to Germany after WWII, historically.
The National Liberals will have the choice of either maintaining their program, or moving to a less nationalist Market Liberal Program. Maintaining the program is more nationalistic, while reforming it is more progressive and focuses mostly on the economy.
Conservative traditions are the only ones that are locked. If you have chosen Adenauer, you get “A Moderate Zentrumspartei”, and if you have not chosen Adenauer, you get “Remain in the tower”. Adenauer’s Tree focuses on extending his work as Mayor of Cologne to the rest of Germany and mirroring his post-war achievements. Kaas’s tree will deal with reforming German society on more Conservative Catholic lines while maintaining Religious Equality.
The Reichstag
If you do not know how parliament mechanics work, see Progress Report 21.
Here is a picture of the Reichstag decision category at game start. It includes the Generic Laws available at start.
There are six categories of laws which determine which parties you can and cannot negotiate with:
  • Militarist laws deal with the expansion of the military and military industry. The Communists, Nationalists, and Nazis tend to support such laws.
  • Pacifist laws deal with the reduction of the military. The Social Democrats and Social Liberals will tend to support these laws.
  • Industrial laws deal with expanding civilian industry. Most parties will support these laws.
  • Welfare laws emphasize government spending on social spending. Left-Wing parties will support these.
  • Austerity laws emphasize cutting down on public expenditure and privatization of Public Services.
  • Progressive laws focus on streamlining the bureaucracy, ending old traditions, and implementing social equality measures.
  • Reactionary laws focus on preserving culture, rolling back democratic reforms, and even putting a certain Crown Prince on the throne…
It is possible to negotiate for a total of 27 different things. However, each party can only demand one thing at a time, and until that party’s demand has run out (each of the demands are timed ideas), you cannot negotiate with them again. There are also measures in place to prevent Germany from agreeing to, for example, raise taxes and lower taxes during the same law. In this example, I am trying to lower military spending. I could negotiate with the market liberals. And they have chosen to demand tariffs. And even with the support of the Market Liberals and Monarchists, I still come up short 40 seats. But this is good; I have let this time out, and I can now show off what happens if you fail to pass the motion. It hurts your government a little, possibly affecting the next election.
We hope you enjoy the Reichstag, as there are a total of 37 events and about 120 laws, which use over 62000 lines of code. In addition, the Reichstag is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be...unnatural.
Political Rallies
It is not hard to get an absolute majority in the Reichstag. To prevent this, I have implemented a system of political rallies. Every few months, a party will hold a rally. Any party can hold a rally, and it can be one of four sizes. Small Rallies give one percent popularity for the party in question, Medium rallies give two percent, Large Rallies give four percent, and Marches give five percent, After clicking through all four events, the political chart now looks like this. Smaller rallies are more common than mediums, mediums are more common than large, etc; but they will appear twice as often if the ruling party has an absolute majority. Marches will still appear at the same frequency.
Anti-War protests will also occur if you are at war. The first kind triggers if you are losing a defensive war. This takes away some war support and party popularity. The second kind activates if you are in an offensive war. This is more damaging than the defensive event. However, if you are in a major war, you can vote to limit political activity. However, once you are at peace, it is a very good idea to allow activity once again. If you do not, you will face some extreme consequences. This event will fire often, and can be [very damaging] for your country.
And remember, party popularity directly translates into Reichstag Seats, so if you want to push through your reforms, you should keep your popularity high.
Reich? Republic? State? Republic?
One of the quirks of the Weimar Republic was that nobody could agree on what to officially call the country. While Weimar Republic is used today in the common parlance (due to Hitler calling it the “Republic of Weimar” in propaganda), the official name was still the “German Reich”. However, the SPD insisted on calling it the “German Republic”, and the Zentrumspartei wanted to call the country the “German People’s State”. Well, if you finish a branch of the traditions, then you get to vote on the country’s name…
Final Note
Well, y’all have now seen all three possible directions for Germany to go in. However, Germany development is not yet over. I will be adding new mechanics, refining and reworking current mechanics, and debugging all three Germanies before moving on. For now, I will leave you with the Full Focus Tree, By putting all options into one screen, Photoshop has told me that the tree is over four meters wide and nearly a meter high. There are around 400 focuses; I hope you like it!

Questions Answers
I know nothing of computers but i was wondering if you could simply state why i should use firefox on my PC instead of others? Firefox is designed and implemented by a non-profit organization fighting for the rights and the privacy of users on the web. Other major browsers are basically the opposite.
Because Firefox is the safest and most customizable browser out there. It's powered by people like me and you who contribute to make it better every day. It's running stable and does your best to protect your privacy on the internet. Plus it's incredibly fast and supports many open standards, giving you a better browsing experience. :)
Plus, as an Open source model, if a security flaw is discovered, it's fixed in an average of one day, rather than other proprietary softwares can take weeks or months to fix it, for instance.
Firefox for Android, in my opinion, is the best mobile browser out there for Android. With it's recent features like Reader Mode and shift to native widgets to improve performance, it's become my favorite. Using Firefox on Desktop, gives me the option to use Firefox Sync.
Firefox is practically slow compared to Chrome. What are you doing about it? I am not talking about speed of launching it on the desktop, I am talking about speed in general. Chrome is simply faster when in use compared to Firefox. Firefox is getting faster and faster with every release, so you might want to check back every so often to see if you still find it slow...
What are you doing to develop/upgrade the local Bookmarks Manager? But, if you find Chrome faster, use Chrome! Mozilla is a not-for-profit which exists for the good of the web, and part of the web remaining healthy is there being multiple web browsers out there. As we saw when IE completely dominated, the web was a boring mundane place, but now where IE, Chrome and Firefox have a much more even split of the browser market, the web is a much better place! (Wouldn't you agree?)
These are the make/break things for me. I gave up on Firefox after many years of complete support only after I realized that Chrome was faster. There is a huge saving of time in a long run when you use Chrome over Firefox. So, where was I going on this point? Ah, yes - if you prefer Chrome then use Chrome! If Opera has features you like, use Opera. Heck, if IE floats your boat... then use it! The competitiveness in the browser market is what pushes development on the web, and is exactly what Mozilla likes and wants!
Ps: I am not a great fan of Google or even their browser, but speed is a big deal when one looks at it in a long run. The amount of time one can save is significant. As for the local bookmarks manager, I have no idea :P.
Memory leaks. are they fixed and people just keep on saying that they are not, or are there still memory leaks? There are no significant memory leaks that we know of, and overall memory usage is quite good.. but there still might be memory issues. A 'memory leak' happens when a program reserves some memory space, and then loses all ways to access it without releasing it. These are pretty easy to find and take care of.
If you could impliment one feature what would it be? Be crazy. Much harder is when a program reserves some memory space, and something still holds on to it -- even if it's not being actively used. For example, a web app may load a bunch of data off the network and keep it around in case you click a button on the page to have it be displayed... and then keep loading more data every hour (for example, to make sure you have the latest info). If you keep your browser and this tab open, you will see your browser's memory usage go up and up and up. There's no real leak, but memory isn't being used efficiently -- and it's not the browser's fault! As web apps become more complex, this kind of stuff is becoming very common. You can get an idea of what's going on by looking at 'about:memory' in Firefox, which lists all sorts of interesting memory data.
I keep my browser open forever, other than for updates, so I see this stuff frequently. Usually just closing tabs that I suspect are doing this causes memory usage to drop pretty quickly.
Vertical tabs ;)
Practically, every program has memory leaks. Unfortunately, adding new features to Firefox can also cause them to appear. But thanks to our contributors and developers who try to fix them as soon as possible, most users' browsing experiences won't be affected. And as soon as someone tells us about a memory leak, we're fixing it and keeping the numbers of leaks as small as possible. :-)
Regarding your second question: I'd personally love a feature that allows me to make sandwiches. I know it's impossible, but I'm really looking forward to seeing it in the future.
I just want to point out that we'll never "fix all the memory leaks", and we should never claim otherwise. Firefox has millions of lines of code, and we're constantly changing it. As hard as we try, we occasionally introduce new leaks (e.g. [1]). And as we change the browser, the amount of memory it uses also changes -- this can give the appearance of "leaks" when there are none per se.
The right question to ask isn't "are the leaks finally fixed?" but "how has the chance that Firefox's memory usage is acceptable for my workloads changed over time?" In this respect, we've made demonstrable progress, as we've not only decreased memory usage for average workloads (as indicated by the telemetry we collect from users who opt in [2] and by our automated tests [3]), but we've fixed a number of edge cases which were causing some users to see high memory usage. (For example, we fixed the vast majority of leaks caused by add-ons.)

Are there any future plans/projects for Firefox that we should looking forward to? Firefox OS :)
FirefoxOS, formerly Boot2Gecko, is going to be available early next year. It is an OS aimed at commodity smartphones built exclusively on web standards, and it is pretty freaking neat. This has driven a lot of the performance improvements we've seen in Firefox (and Firefox for Android) over the last year.
WebRTC: real-time communication in the browser without plugins required. p2p Audio, Video or data streams directly from within the browser, all in a couple lines of javascript.
Rust, a C/C++ replacing system language that is memory safe. They just released version 0.4.
Servo, a next-generation, multi-process, super-flexible browser engine, conveniently being written in Rust.
Per Window Private Browsing : The details are here Link to wiki.mozilla.org
This seems like a very ambitious project. Many iOS and android users are heavily devoted to sticking with these systems. How do you plan to compete with them and convince people to switch? The world is a big place and not everyone can afford to pay for a higher end iPhone or Android device. I think our objective is give people a smartphone experience at a very affordable price range to begin with.
Can we expect a Firefox Phone anytime soon? There is no plan for a Mozilla phone.
Are you in need of contributors and is it easy to get involved? We are always happy to gain new contributors. And yes, it is very easy to get involved! Simply go to this page to get to know how to join us.
Besides visiting the link others have suggested, join the channel #introduction on irc.mozilla.org and ask any question and you'll always find people ready to help.
PS : If you're looking for contributing via programming, check out Link to whatcanidoformozilla.org .
Why does my non-private instance need to be closed when I open a private browsing instance? Is this something that you plan to address or is it by design? Feel free to track the work being done on Per Window Private Browsing here : Link to bugzilla.mozilla.org . The wiki is here : Link to wiki.mozilla.org
Which addons do you think would be in the top 3 "must-have" if you guys took a poll? (okay, this would be a poll of just myself :P)
It seems PCs and OSs are becoming increasingly locked down - tightly controlled App Stores, Restricted Boot etc - which actively discourage third party applications like browsers or make them impossible to install or compete fairly with the native one. What future do you see for Mozilla in a world where computers become thin clients on which the users have minimal control and just accept the defaults? This is why we are building Firefox OS we think that while OSs are currently locked down that it doesn't need to be the trend for all time.
Firefox OS, just like Firefox browser, is not aiming to take over the world and force everyone else out (unlike what our competitors would like in both cases.) We want to have an open platform that forces platforms to also embrace open standards. Shake things up and make them better for humans instead of only getting better for corporations.
I am a Firefox fan and a programmer. I would like to be able to see Firefox with eyes of a developer by making changes in code and building it. The issue is that I always get put off by thinking about creating the build environment. Creating a build environment for Firefox is too complicated. Could you guys please create a build VM template which people like me can download and get to fiddle around? Check out foxinabox. It's just what you need. Thanks a lot for using Firefox by the way. :)
You can still release a ton of point releases on a regular schedule, but save the major version number for major changes. Instead of calling this version 18 or whatever crazy high number it is, you could call it 5.6.3 or something. No significant changes have been made since 5.0, so the question is, why the version number? Because version numbers don't matter. Let's pretend they did matter, and you could know that FF 6 contained at least one "major change". How do you define that? Do you still have some kind of schedule for when major changes occur? What if you suddenly need to make a "major change" due to a 0-day security bug that threatens users? Do your updating rules change for major releases? The point is, version numbers are arbitrary. Many people associate them with big things like UI refreshes, or a new JIT engine, but there's a host of things that could constitute "major changes" that are harder to market in a traditional way. When we are releasing new versions every 6 weeks, it is counter-productive to limit the changes we're allowed to make in a particular cycle due to an arbitrary number.
Let's not fuck around here, is it also partially do with "bigger is better"? Agreed, let's not fuck around. No.
I actually have a question for Mozillians: Favorite video game, and why? At the moment it is Starcraft 2. We have a team for the After Hours Gaming League hosted by Day[9]. That or The War Z. edit: forgot the why!
I like TF2. Because hats. Portal 2. Because Cave Johnston.
I have lot of questions to ask, please ignore any mistake on my part and I hope you answer all of the in simple noob English. Thanks in advance. Thank you so much for using Firefox and for your questions! :-)
Arrange according to importance highest to lowest. Performance as in less memory etc. Security and privacy from viruses and trackers respectively. Feature as in integration of social stuff etc. Innovation as in pdf.js etc. Security and Privacy, Performance, Features.
In regards to your codebase, has your C++0x usage been rising? With the latest improvements in GCC (sadly not in MSVC), I'd would have expected your use of C++11 to rise? Also, nearly every C++ book has references to the new standard, I'm sure this has a positive effect on the volume of C++11 you get now? Can any of you confirm this? On a side note, this question is related: I'm thinking of contributing a patch, though I tend to write a lot of 0x; thus I would like to know if it is acceptable? We're starting to incorporate some more recent C++ features that can degrade nicely through the use of macros to compilers that don't support them (such as nullptr, strong enum classes, and other things I forget). Given that we support a fairly varied range of compilers (consider that we build the same code across Windows, Linux, Mac [recently dropped support for Apple's gcc], and Android [fun times there]), we often have to be conservative in what we accept. We also have very little STL usage in the main codebase, so if you feel like that's going to totally turn you off writing code for us... be forewarned?
What is the problem with flash? Why does firefox DIE when I open 10 youtube videos? It begins to stutter. I did not have this problem on the same computer 3 years ago. I'm sorry to hear about your problems with Flash. To fix your problem, please take a look at this KB article on SUMO.
Why does it take so long for firefox to close (obviously you repaired it, in the past it would take 2-3 minutes; now 10-20 seconds). For this problem, please read this article that will hopefully fix your problem. :)
Why does firefox not give any warnings when a new addon is installed when I install external software? E.g. I installed an antivirus and it put some crappy addon into firefox - the antivirus did not ask me for this; firefox did not warn me about this either. Unfortunately, there's no way to prevent that from happening. In this case, it's the anti virus program's fault.
Why does my computer DIE when I try to search in history? Has anyone tested it, or is it some forgotten part of the program that gets no love? This is probably because your history is pretty long. There's right now no way to fix this, sorry about that. But I'm sure that there'll be some updates... Thanks a lot for using Firefox and for stopping by. :)
Hey, I will read those articles, I simply wonder if you could implement some sanity check in the search? I mean, it should not kill the computer by opening it and entering few letters. Awesome. If I remember correctly, someone if already working on it.
So stay tuned. :-) And thanks a lot for dropping by.
I read the articles and all they said was to update flash and turn off hardware accelearation. Oh well. Did you try it and did it work? :)
Would completion of Firefox Electrolysis meet or exceed Google Chrome security-wise (sandboxing, etc.)? This is a tricky one, as Apple's rules prevent us from using our own rendering engine or JavaScript engine on iOS, so anything we do would basically be Safari with a different UI and inferior JS support (which is what Dolphin and Chrome for iOS are). We do have an ongoing research project called "Junior", but it is not really ready for prime-time, though.
Do you know the status of built-in PDF support, Australis redesign, h.264/h.265 support? Does Mozilla ever plan on making any hardware (Firefox phone, etc.)? I assume "built-in PDF support" refers to pdf.js. Well, it works quite nicely, I am using it regularly. It is, however, an add-on, not a built-in feature.
Do you plan to submit Firefox to the Mac App Store? We have no plans to build any hardware by ourselves at the moment – this is a completely different industry. However, Firefox OS phones are on the way.
Thanks for replying. I thought of two more questions. Thanks for the link, I had never heard about that project.
Your thoughts on optimization of Firefox like Pale Moon, which is able to speed up Firefox by removing outdated hardware support. Will Mozilla speed up Firefox in future versions? I do not have a definitive reply on this topic. Removing support for old CPUs makes sense, if done properly (i.e. if we do not drop users along the way). I will have to discuss this with colleagues of the Performance Team.
Is Mozilla working with EFF to include "HTTPS Everywhere" in Mozilla Add-on Marketplace? (I have no idea about your second question)
Link to www.reddit.com. Check this out : Link to blog.lizardwrangler.com and in no way this is the end for Thunderbird. It has a strong support and an awesome community and I feel it'll always keep on getting better, just that now you have a better chance to show your love towards it by supporting it and implemennting the features which you feel are important.
That makes me very happy. I switch to the ESR build because I thought it would be around the longest, I'm glad it won't die. No problem, you're welcome! :-)
Does your UK office need a tea boy this summer? Perhaps one studying Computing at university? Because if so, I'm totally available. You can join the local community and try visiting the london open space] ([Link to thenextweb.com - there you can find all kind of opportunities :D.
Please? Let me ask around about internships in UK, I'll get back to you.
I... Did not know about that. I may show up when I can. Unfortunately, I live in Liverpool, but next time I'm down south, I'll say hello. :) Mozilla looks for interns pretty often, you can go there Link to careers.mozilla.org to know more about them ;) Pretty straight-forward concerning volunteering! Link to whatcanidoformozilla.org and Link to www.mozilla.org should get your started quite quickly :) Hey - taka a look at this page and choose your favourite domain. Someone from mozilla will answer to you with more details.
I have another question. How can I volunteer for Mozilla?
What ever happened to the red pandas? They moved to a new zoo/park that is way bigger. :-) So that they can live in a more comfortable way and be as free as... Firefox.
Are there any plans for future creature cams? Have you guys received any new pictures/updates on them? Not right now, maybe next year. I'm not sure, but I'd of course love to see some baby pandas again.
We unfortunately don't receive any updates, but since they moved to a bigger place, we're sure that they are doing pretty well. :)
Okay, I gotta ask. Why aren't you using smart pointers? Are we coding in C or something? Oh, we use smart pointers. If only it were so simple!
Here's example of the kind of complexity we face: With traditional refcounting, one problem you encounter is cycles. That is, if A points to B and B points to A, then when nothing points to A or B any longer, we should delete both A and B, but they both have a refcount of 1 and don't get deleted. Any refcounting scheme has to deal with this somehow.
But in Firefox, we can have the situation where A is a refcounted C++ object and B is a JavaScript object. JS objects are garbage collected. So that means our C++ cycle-detection code and our JS garbage collector are inexorably tied together.
Oh, and a garbage/cycle collection event needs to run in no more than 20ms or so. Have fun. :)
There's a lot of really zealous people out there who act as crusaders for their browser of choice, constantly insulting other browsers and the teams that work hard on them. A lot of us who work on Web Standards have to work with developers working on other browsers, since many a time, it's their spec that we're implementing or vice versa or some general discussion on things like ES6 etc. We don't have any hostility towards them and quite a lot of time, the interaction is very healthy. We collaborated recently with technical writers from a lot of companies to come up with this awesome site on documentation : Link to www.webplatform.org . It could never have happened withouth good interaction.
In my mind, however, I like to imagine that the Firefox/Chrome/IE/Opera/Safari/etc. dev teams get along pretty well with each other even if they disagree on development approaches. Is this generally the case or is there actually an attitude of hostility with other browser teams? Or do you not interact with other browser teams enough to have strong opinions of them? Mozilla aims to make the Web more open and better for the user and we don't just aim to make the other browsers feel bad or just aim at getting our browser share high.
How do you feel about Brendan Eich's donation to California Prop 8 in Mozilla's name? Let me clarify something first: he didn't donate to Proposition 8 in Mozilla name. But if your donation exceeds a certain amount, you /have/ to indicate your employer too. Now, Mozilla is a really huge community. Diversity plays a huge role. There are black people, white people, men, women, kids, Africans, Asians, Europeans, Muslims, Christians, straight and gay people. Luckily, there’s no discrimination going on. All members are respecting each other, which is a very good thing. Of course you don't need to agree with every opinion, but in a community, you have to respect every member - even their opinions. And having your own opinion is important. In fact, it’s one of the main reasons why Mozilla and many other organizations are so successful. We promote choice. We don’t do things like the others do, we do it in a way in which we think about other people, because doing something without keeping other people in your mind would be egoistic. Mozilla is definitely one of the best communities ever. The members are very accepting and understanding and a single opinion or donation can never represent the whole Mozilla community.
How do I get youtube videos to play??? Everytime I try to watch one a static-y screen comes up and says something like "An Error Occurred, Try again later". Please make sure that your Flash player isn't outdated. Try again and update it. If that still doesn't work, check out SUMO - you'll definitely find an answer there. :-)
Trying again later doesn't help. :( I feel this might be a problem with your Adobe Flash Player. Please try reinstalling it or maybe updating to the latest version. After doing that you could try starting with a clean profile and if all this doesn't work out, please check out SUMO
I've updated, but I'll check out SUMO at lunch. Thanks :) No problem, you're welcome. Good luck. :)
Any reason for the slow development for OSX? (It used to be faster...maybe it's just my imagination?) The development is actually not that slow at the moment - we're working on the support of tabs in the title bar and we're almost done. You can expect part a new theme in Firefox 19 along with even more improvements. :-)
Retina support took forever Lion scrollbars are still not supported (the current ones are NOT adequate at all :/) Slow development on OS X (I presume you're talking about OS X-specific features, since the rest of Firefox proceeds in lockstep) happens because we are severely shorthanded on developers who can and want to write OS X integration code. If you know any, send them my way - we have paid openings, as well as a long list of things we would love a motivated volunteer contributor to take on.
Good to hear, tabs in the titlebar is something I was almost beginning to accept that it wasn't going to come :P. Any news on the scrollbars? Are they going to stay the way they are now? It's a known bug and a developer has already submitted over 15 patches. Some of them have also been approved so far, so yeah, we're working on fixing it. :-) Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks, glad to see the current scrollbars are actually not intended to stay. No problem, you're welcome. :-)
I'm an OS X user too and just as glad about this as you are. :)
I've only got one thing keeping me from using Firefox on my phone: is there a faster way to Google something other than going to the website and searching from there? I've tried searching from the address bar :( Did searching from the address bar not work for you?
What's up with the version number boosting? Who cares if you're way behind Chrome or IE? I've been happy with Firefox for years, but ever since you decided to release a new build every two or three months it has gone down the hill. It's constantly freezing and it's annoying to keep it up to date, since the built-in updater won't work? I must admit I've changed to Chrome :( The change of release-cycle wasn't supported by a will to catch up numbers (what are numbers worth anyway ? :p). It's to match the "release early, release early" philosophy. Features are released more often to the users and the transition is smoother.
Also, the updates are silent and will be even more silent in the future iirc. Basically just like Chrome, you wouldn't even realise you have the brand-new version, but you are running it!
Ah so you bring in smaller changes but more often. The silent update feature is really cool, might check it out again in the future! Thanks for the answer! Not always smaller changes ;) Users won't have to wait for almost a year to use the cutting-edge technologies now! Thanks for passing by ;)
Is there anything the community did that really took you by surprise? Also, I can't wait for Firefox Flicks 2013! Really, it was how friendly and welcoming they were, for me. I'm sure when I first joined, I was the typical "I know nothing what is this I don't even" noob person, but they helped me all along the way, and still do. Organizing this event was a huge community effort, I couldn't have done it without each and every person who's on the list above, 45 of them as of now.
When I submitted my first patch, I remember doing all kinds of stupid errors in it and hence the patch was rejected. But before anyone told me that my patch is wrong, the first thing they did was to encourage and appreciate my effort and were so good, that I didn't feel bad and in fact wanted to get that patch landed. I had tried to contbute to another Open Source Project before this but the community and the kind of support I got here, was unparalled.
Threre was no turning back for me. It's been a wonderful 5 months since my first patch and I still feel the same energy.
I am each day impressed and encouraged by their energy and knowledge - I am alsways helped outon IRC, on bugs which each project.
I learn new things - like this Reddit thing :D.
And don't even let me start talking about how awesoem are some community events.. I wan't finish in a week..
The community rules for me! It rocks!
Why is firefox's privacy mode not like chrome's with the ability to have both kinds of sessions open simultaneously? I'm sure I'm not the only person who may have some 20 - 40 tabs open when the need to, um, shop for gifts arises and having those 20-40 tabs all reload is a bit of a pain. Extensions are likely a big source of this. Currently extensions have access to find out about all open tabs (and maybe even windows, not sure), mixing private and non-private tabs means a lot more complexity for our add-on handling code. There is likely a ticket for something like this but I didn't see it when I briefly searched.
I keep 100+ tabs open at once, so I feel your pain. One of the things I do to mitigate restart times is to check "Don't load tabs until selected," under the Preferences->Tabs section. Total life saver for me.
What is up with the Firefox memory leak? Why can I not leave my browser running continuously for a week without it consuming 3-4Gb of my RAM for no reason? Also, why, when I close said Firefox process, why don't I always get that memory back? We are trying out best to fix memory leaks, in the meanwhile you can try to make your Firefox faster by using the SUMO KB. Thanks for stopping by! :-)
Both of the assertions in this statement are false, for future reference. We covered this in a recent security review for private browsing. It's possible I am remembering the details wrong but I do know there is discussion of private and non-private browsing simultaneously.
Holy crap, you actually responded! Thanks for that! No problem, you're welcome. :-)
Just want to say, memory leaks or not, I love Firefox, and I'll keep using it until Internet Explorer gets their act together (read: will probably never happen). Thank you so much for using Firefox, you rock! :D.
64-bit, when is it happening? Right now, we only support 64-bit on OS X and Linux. There's a tracking bug on how far the implementation of 64-bit on Windows is done, and as you can see in the "Depends on" section, there aren't many active bugs anymore. The three major problems right now are: Plug-in support, accessibility support and we're not sure what to do if users have both 32-bit and 64-bit Firefox installed. But anyway, stay tuned and check this page once in a while to get to know about the latest status. :) Thanks for using Firefox!
Why is your codebase in C++? We use a bunch of languages in our code base. A detailed analysis is here : Link to www.ohloh.net
We use C++ because it's popular and many developers know it. Oh, and it works on all operating systems we support. :-)
As mentioned by sawrubh, the codebase is not only in C++.
However, indeed, the backbone of the Mozilla Platform is written in C++. This language was chosen for the following reasons: - when Mozilla was started, it was available and well-tested on all the platforms we targeted at the time; - it interacts smoothly with C, which is pretty much a requirement for all the low-level tasks we need to handle on just about every platform; - it can be customized to do just about everything; - it is fast.
However, since the start of the project, a new language has appeared that: - is available and well-tested on all platforms targeted by Mozilla; - is able to interact well with C; - can be customized to do most things; - is fast enough.
Interestingly enough, this language is called JavaScript and it is already part of the Mozilla Platform. So, as we maintain the code, whenever we realize that some component would be better implemented in JavaScript rather than in C++, we port this code.
Also, we are currently experimenting with a new language called Rust, a system-oriented. If, as we hope, Rust proves to be a better C++ than C++, we will end up progressively migrating part of the C++ code to Rust.
What is your attitude towards small noncompetitive browsers like QupZilla, Midori etc? We encourage any open source software initiative.
We love anything which keeps the users happy. If you feel QupZilla or Midori fulfills your needs, that's great. It just means that we have succeeded in our mission to make the Web more Open and accessible for everyone.
